• Sound Problems - Razer Megalodon.

This is very damn annoying. I just bought a Razer Megalodon Headset, I like it very much, except for the part that I'm an audiophile and it shits out static noises whenever anything on my screen moves while I listen to music or anything audio related, yeah what? Let me try explain it like this: It shoots out weird static / audio breakage when: 1. I'm scrolling down and up quickly on the Task Manager 2. Watching a flash animation 3. Moving a window around on my desktop 4. Watching a movie of any file-type. 5. Possibly anything that's related to the above. I'm running Windows Vista 64-bit and these would be my speccs: Motherboard: nVidia nForce 680i SLI Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E6750 @ 2.66GHz Video Card: nVidia Geforce 8800GTX 3GB of RAM Say if you need any additional info and I will try find it. Now what have I done to try fix this? 1. Follow the advice on Razers support page: http://cult.razerzone.com/2009/08/02/just-got-your-razer-megalodon-gaming-headset-do-you-hear-static-noise-or-audio-breakage/
Hear static noise or audio breaks? You might want to follow these steps to determine it’s your system’s issue. 1. Check that your Windows OS is up to date. If not, update to latest version at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com - I'm 100% UTD 2. Check that your system is up to date, especially updating all sound drivers and USB board drivers from your motherboard/computer manufacturer. - I downloaded every of the newest drivers and software for my nForce motherboard, as well as my sound card 3. If you have an external USB hub, check and see if the Razer Megalodon works when connected through it. If so, there may be a driver update for your USB port from your motherboard manufacturer. -Tried it, didn't work... 4. We also suggest trying your Razer Megalodon on another computer system, this will help isolate where any problem may be.YES THAT DID WORK! On my windows XP laptop. Vista users want to make sure they have installed these Hot Fixes available from Microsoft. • http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943599 • http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953228 - Tried them and they weren't valid for my computer, they must already be installed with an update. No I did not get the wrong version. Vista users also want to insure the Service Pack (SP2) update from Microsoft is installed on their computers. - Duuuur
2. I tried to make sure I use as little CPU and RAM and GPU power ad possible. Didn't work. 3. I've tried every USB port I have. 5. I've tried unplugging every other USB devices but the headset. The ONLY that did work was plugging my headset into my Windows XP Laptop, it can't even play games from 2005 without dropping to 10fps but it didn't have ANY audio breakage AT ALL. So my first guess is that Windows Vista fucks up again. Now for the weird part. It doesn't do this when playing games. Yeah, whenever I'm playing a game, Fallout 3, L4D, TF2, the audio breakage and static noises will go away instantly. It simply amazes me because it makes no fucking sense whatsoever. The problem seems to rest within Windows and not the headset itself. Do anyone of you experience the same problem as me?
I have nearly the exactly same specs as you, I also just purchased this headset. Same problem... Did you fix?
i have this except i have different headphones. but i know its my audiojack. cause my back port doesnt do it. try using non-razer drivers. cause razer sucks at making them.

You usually get static like that if you have a crappy sound card. USB headsets commonly have
It's probably the soundcard. With my onboard sound card, some very interesting thing happens. Every time the graphics card redraws the screen, the soundcard emits some crackling noise (besides the usual noise that's there all the time), but it's rather quiet so i don't hear it unless i crank up the volume on my speakers. I've actually written a post about that about a week ago in some other thread, i'm going to look for it. [editline]01:11PM[/editline]
You usually get static like that if you have a crappy sound card. USB headsets commonly have
These things have inbuilt soundcards? I didn't know that before. In that case, it seems there's nothing you can do about it if it can't use a separate soundcard. Edit:
Same thing happens to me when i start up Crysis, i get around 900fps in the menu. I think it's nothing to be worried about. Also, did anyone notice that the gpu can interfere with the soundcard? (at least it does with my onboard one) The noise that my soundcard produces is hugely affected by the current framerate at which my graphics card is pumping frames out. For example when i get low framerates i hear this low frequency crackling sound, but as the framerate gets higher, the frequency of the noise rises with it. You can try this for yourself with any program in which you can easily affect the framerate, just make sure to disable any sounds that may be playing and turn your speakers up loud enough that you can hear the noise coming from the soundcard. Rthdribl (it's a fairly old tech demo, but still looks quite good) is good for testing this, just play around with the AA, DoF and glare settings to alter the framerate
