The Statue of Liberty and Liberty Island were evacuated Friday afternoon due to an unspecified security concern, the National Parks Service said.

Hopefully it's a false alarm.
Someone probably left a fanny pack unattended near the base or something, this probably happens a lot

Or a backpack. Those tend to look a little more intimidating, especially after the Boston Marathon bombings.

ya but the difference is that getting out to the island requires you to go through security checks plus last time i went you couldn't go straight there, you had to go to elis island first which had even more guards on it
not saying its inconceivable, but its probably a bit harder to walk onto the island

You don't have to actually step foot on Ellis Island and go through its security to go to the Statue. I just sat on the boat and waited when we got to that point, as did many others.

oh, its been like 3-4 years since i went, back then the statue had just opened up again and stuff was still tight, also they had like 2 boats running at that point
NSF is at it again.
You know it's time to sleep when you read the title, assume the statue itself had been evacuated off the island over a security concern and wonder why everyone else in the thread is so nonchalant.
