But really you could apply this logic to any major internet arguments (GG, Rep vs Dem, Gun Control, ect ect)
It makes it interesting that really the only reason these arguments still go on is because they are fueling eachother.
Does that mean if say, one side of #gamergate just stopped completely, the whole thing would blow over?

I'm not sure if it would, but it would certainly be less entertaining without some random dude on the internet telling you how difficulty sliders in video games promote toxic masculinity.

Considering that it started as a reaction to something that people were already doing, I wouldn't imagine so. It'll just mean that the people against GG will get on with whatever they were up to beforehand, and the people who were part of it will just quietly grumble in a corner.
