British television star "Supernanny" blames the london riots on violent videogames
Jo Frost, best known as TV’s ‘Supernanny’, has blamed the London Riots on violent video games.
Frost, who has a PhD in video game psychology, said:
“Research shows that within 15 minutes of playing one of these games young men become highly aggressive and lack empathy in normal situations. It is not too fanciful to suggest it’s a short step from being immersed in this war-like world to taking that nightmare mindset on to the streets with all the consequences of anarchy and violence we saw rip apart cities.”
Oh wait, that was wrong. Her doctorate isn’t in video game psychology. It’s a PhD in total bullshit. The (and I stress this point) completely unqualified TV presenter makes excellent use of the words “research shows,” however- providing absolutely no evidence for her claim but still sounding smug in the process. She went on:
“I felt for a moment as if we had stumbled into a real-life violent video game of the kind that so many of those involved are addicted to. These horrific games where points are given for burning, shooting and killing, where the graphics are so realistic you believe that they’re real scenes of carnage, where those who play fantasise they have the power of life and death, are so brutal they completely desensitise anyone taking part.”
Wait, was GTA not real? I genuinely thought I was killing that Russian guy. I’ve been in hiding all this time for nothing?
Best of all, though, is this little nugget:
Shopkeepers should demand proof of age and where they ignore this and break the law by selling them to children they should be fined.
Perhaps 30 seconds of research would have led her to the law that means this already happens.
:frog:
when your going to speak out against violent video games, either
A: Stop trying altogether, or
B: Actually provide some solid evidence or show you know anything about what your talking about whatsoever
or you know, proof works too
I kind of expected her to blame the parents, seeing as that's what her show is about...
A PhD in video game psychology? hah
Can chavs even afford video games?
[editline]1[/editline]
Oh, wait, I guess that's what looting is for. :downs:
Maybe if I looted a Gamestop or something to acquire more violent video games

Realistic graphics
wow what the fuck
take your fake phd and fuck off idiot
Those goddamn shoot'em up video games causing riots.
eugh, my sister has watched every episode of her show.
5 times.
people who play video games aren't actually completely retarded and become incredibly immersed in SO REAL graphics.
just because YOU find them realistic doesn't mean actual gamers are

Well then.
I have a PhD in Detecting Bullshit, and this reeks of bullshit.
She must be attention grabbing because her show got canceled.
Oh shit, I just played a match of CS:S now I feel the sudden urge to go steal a 40" tv.

I kind of expected her to be reasonable and not go for a scape goat and instead adress the underlying social issues present in the UK
but it turns out she's kinda stupid so ye
My psychologist laughed when I told him this.
He has a PhD in child psychology and has probably worked with more kids/teenagers than that bitch ever has.
This article is the only source I could find about her having any kind of Phd at all. I don't think it's true.
Actually she doesn't have a degree at all. She majored in Education but dropped out :v:
Why do they always quickly blame video games? How about fucking movies where they try to make a head getting ripped off by a killer

Yeah they cause problems too. The Exorcist could teach kids to attempt to turn their head 180 degrees and thus break their neck!
for anyone who hasn't watched the show, it's utter shit.
the more you know

the PhD thing was a joke by the writer.
Oh yeah, well, I have a PhD in Chav Psychology.
Anyone who has ever taking a class in Chav Psych will be able to tell you that it's not violent video games that cause riots.
And I, a master of the craft of psyching chavs, blame bad parenting.
Although it's not bad parenting, but bad babysitting.
Really though, it's less bad babbysitting and much more bad
nannying
I have a degree in school psychology or something like that, why not
Ban schools, they teach kids to gossip and form CULTS they like to disguise as FRIENDS
When will this pure fucking shit ever stop.
I played PERP, so its time to break in to someones house and steal their drugs now....
Why do they always quickly blame video games? How about fucking movies where they try to make a head getting ripped off by a killer
It used to be movies, hence that whole 'video nasty' era in the 80s. Morons have been blaming whatever is popular for a long time.

I play WoW, so I naturally go around casting spells on people and turning into a fucking bird
Video games being needlessly targeted again I see. First it was movies, then it was heavy metal, nowadays it's video games. Next it'll be holograms or smell-o-vision or whatever that'll be taking the fall. These ill-informed people with their petty and ludicrous thoughts really need to cut this shit out because all it does is make them look foolish and irritate the people who actually enjoy the things being wrongfully targeted.
I mean, I could just as easily say that Supernanny caused the riots because it portrays real dysfunctional families etc and therefore influenced people into acting poorly. But I don't say that because I'm not a complete fucktard like she is and as such I don't go around blaming things just because it's convenient.

After a long time of playing GTA, I discovered my skill to steal cars whilst they're moving
if anything it's the lack of video games. how many of the rioters did you see breaking into game stores and stealing PS3's and videogames and shit? maybe if they already had em they'd be too busy playing to go rob more

I think that's gone out of style now, there was that thing with the kids who watched Chuckie and tied a kid to a train.
Something along those lines, lots of media coverage.
