With Israel and Islamist Hamas setting seemingly irreconcilable terms for a truce that mediators hope will begin by a major Muslim festival next week, Kerry worked the phones from Egypt while aides made clear his patience was limited.

The urgency was spurred on Thursday by the killing of 15 people sheltering at a U.N.-run school in the northern Gaza Strip, which local officials blamed on Israeli shelling.
Israel said its forces had come under attack from Palestinian militants in the area of the school and that they had shot back. It accused Hamas of preventing any evacuation.

An Israeli air strike on Friday killed the top spokesman for armed faction Islamic Jihad, a Hamas ally, along with his son, Gaza officials said, bringing the mostly civilian Palestinian death toll to 804.

Protesters surged against an Israeli army checkpoint, throwing rocks and Molotov cocktails, and Palestinian medics said one was shot dead and 200 wounded when troops opened fire.
On Friday, Israeli forces went on high alert for flare-ups at a Jerusalem mosque compound during prayers marking the final stretch of the Ramadan Muslim holy month.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was to convene his security cabinet on Friday to discuss a limited humanitarian truce under which Palestinian movement would be freed up to allow in aid and for casualties to be recovered.
A lot of this is probably old news, but we've got some more details on the riots. And an official explanation from the IDF on the school bombing.
Then they respond with more Jihad to avenge their fallen.
And of course. They shot at US and we shot back! Same fucking excuse by the IDF.
Did they at least give them a leaflet warning that they will get shelled within 15 minutes?

Another one down-- one step closer to finishing the war. Keep it up, Israel.

Disgusting.
Disgusting.
You realize we're talking about a jihadist here...
Oh look, a Hamas apologist!
You realize that endlessly killing people won't solve anything, right?
You realize that endlessly killing people won't solve anything, right?
I think a ceasefire would be a lot easier if we could get rid of the terrorists who use human shields, missiles, and suicide bombers to get their political advantage.

It is impossible to ever be completely rid of terrorism. If not Hamas, some other group will arise to take its place.
You realize we're talking about a jihadist here...
You do realize with the ongoing situation only MORE Palestinians are going to support Hamas because of the massive civilian death toll in comparison to actual fighters? It won't finish this way unless they kill virtually every last Palestinian, because peoples families and friends will want to avenge them for this, and some of those jihadists are doing the exact same thing.

I would think a ceasefire would be a lot easier if we could get rid of a tyrannical government that breaks several human rights laws every single moment of the day, and uses a tragic period that happened 70 years ago to excuse themselves of genocide.
Nice how Marceline editorialized the title to make the 800 deaths seem like only a footnote.
I think a ceasefire would be a lot easier if we could get rid of the terrorists who use human shields, missiles, and suicide bombers to get their political advantage.
Because a sensible government would still make the conscious decision to shoot through the human shield right? Better bomb the hospitals to be safe!

You REALLY REALLY REALLY don't have room to talk about titles Mr. "IDF SNIPER SHOOTS CIVILIAN" as a title, when the article CLEARLY states that there's no proof that it was an IDF sniper.

Now you're nitpicking like a shitposter.
Semi-related, people actually believe this:

I literally had to spend the last 20 minutes explaining to these people that it's not a miracle, it's because Hamas is literally firing crude, home-made rockets built out of hardware store parts. I really hate the bible belt.

Once again, no.
Hamas is firing Chinese designed, Iranian and Syrian built military grade rockets.
They are relatively accurate and have a decent payload.
The only reason they don't cause too much damage is Iron Dome and bomb shelters.

Not sure how anything in such a short title can be "footnoted"

Don't be smug when your own source contradicts what you say.
The IDF says most of rockets fired at the center of the country are makeshift, Gaza-made ones.
It is like when those people who deceitfully say "Hamas fires white phosphorus rockets" because two WP shells were recycled from an unknown group in Gaza years ago.

What is Hamas fighting for, do you know?

Way to pick to one single line in the entire article that supports your point.
Here's what the IDF actually says:
Special Report: The Deadly Rocket Arsenal of Hamas
According to that, as well as this handy map from the NYTimes (and, you know, what we here like to call "reality") Israel's center, the area surrounding Tel Aviv where most of Israel's population is, is only within range of M-75s and M-302s. Grads can maybe just barely reach that area but of course Grads are also military grade soviet rockets.
The actual "home made" rockets Hamas fields, called Qassam rockets, can only reach the area immediately surrounding the Gaza strip, like Sderot. It's true that that area gets the most rockets (and mortars), but all of the rockets reaching beyond that and hitting the rest of Israel or being intercepted en route are the Chinese ones.

W-why do you hate me, Mastah? I'm just reporting the news!
Anyways, I'm glad to see this bastard die. It's symbolic; if anything.

It's not just the rockets "being thrown off-course", it's the fact that they somehow think a radical extremist who's SO dedicated to their own God would give any credence to the God of Israel.
Also the headline says nothing about missiles being shot-down, just rockets being sent off-course.
