http://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/calgary-communities-evacuated-as-flooding-prompts-state-of-emergency-1.1333791
The city of Calgary said Thursday up to 100,000 residents could be forced to leave their homes as communities across southern Alberta deal with heavy rains and widespread flooding. The evacuation is likely to take place in stages over the next few days. Mandatory evacuation orders have been issued for six Calgary communities along the Elbow River, as parts of southern Alberta face rising flood waters and prepare for the possibility of more rain to come.
I have family in High River, their entire town of like 13,000 had to be completely evacuated. Spoke to them on the phone, said their van got completely washed out and is gone now.
Good thing I live in Cranston. I will look down on the flood zones.
i was gonna post this all I see on facebook is people getting evac'd :(
Are any of these evacs also because of that sourgas well that blew out this morning?

It's been raining for like 7 days straight here, I know how all you Vancouver residents feel now.
http://www.calgarycitynews.com/ It's rare to see an environmental disaster in Calgary. This is going to be interesting.
The City of Calgary has a reserve of sandbags for use in priority areas as identified by The City’s Emergency Management Plan. City crews are actively filling and deploying these bags in areas where the need is greatest. Given limited resources, these bags will only be available for use by City crews, and are not being made available to the public. Unfortunately, it is not possible for The City of Calgary to provide sandbags to thousands of homes. We thank you for your understanding during this emergency.
Not enough sandbags is going to be a serious problem.
My uncle just got evacuated

Hope my parent's basement doesn't get flooded again.
I was playing Dota with my friend from Calgary and he was more worried about getting an abandonment than evacuating. Needless, he got out safely :c

Downtown is flooded, most of the major roads are closed or flooded. It got way worse overnight and it's expected to get even worse with water expected to rise around another 5-10 feet.
The National Post says this morning that 75,000 people have been evacuated from Calgary alone, and the worst is yet to come because the river hasn't peaked yet.

I'm close to Bragg creek at a high ground camp site (where I work) with co-workers but if something happens I'm told that no one will come for us.Another camp close by was air evacuated. I'm sure we will be fine though. - Fort83

Traffic is pretty crazy in the west end of Calgary, there is only a single bridge open for crossing over the river and earlier this morning there was at least a 10.5km long traffic jam leading up towards it coming from the evacuated southern areas. Was totally not expecting something like this from the early storm warnings over a week ago
My exam got moved to Monday, god damnit
I'm supposed to be in Calgary on July 4th til the 11th for the Stampede, flying in from Vancouver. I have a lot of family in Calgary so I'm always up to date with whats going on with this flood.
I feel so out of touch for not knowing about this until today what the fuck.
Yeah, most stores around me in the NW are practically completely out of water. Also just saw this on the Banff Facebook page, there goes part of the Trans-Canada [thumb]https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/1015943_597985253567321_1264071673_o.jpg[/thumb]
Apparently all this water is going to flow downstream and flood the shit out of Medicine Hat by this time tomorrow. Thankfully I'm on the very edge of the city and at a way higher elevation than the river so I shouldn't get flooded unless the sewers back up. It could kill the city's power plant though, which is stupidly placed right next to the river.

was supposed to go through banff to calgary from BC just after canada day for the stampede welp. hopefully they can recover from this quickly
