"Today, we are one step closer to marriage equality in Illinois," Quinn said in a statement shortly after the Senate vote. "Couples across Illinois have even more reason today to celebrate their love for each other, thanks to the hard work of committed advocates and lawmakers."
It's about time.
It's only a matter of time before the entire United States legalizes it.
Bout time, this still should never have even been an issue.
they should just add freedom of marriage to the constitution
I don't recall seeing any news about this sooo : France passed its gay marriage legislation yesterday. This is a great week for human rights and fights against religious bigotry.
yay my state rocks. Progress!
A step forward for another state in the US. Hopefully it'll encourage others to do so and eventually incorporate it into the constitution.

Except for Texas. You know they won't legalize it. Florida has somewhat of a chance though.
and on Valentines Day too.
How awesome!
Illinois congress actually got something done?!
A MIRACLE
they should just add freedom of marriage to the constitution
they sorta did. the supreme court has actually acknowledged marriage as being a vital part of the rights outlined in the constitution.

Obviously this is a very small example, but not every person in Texas would necessarily want to ban it.
Plus, given infinite amount of time (theoretically), there is always the opportunity for equal marriage (note my wording) to exist.
It's not legalized yet. It still has to be approved in the House.

that comparison at the end between small town texas and new york is a pretty poor comparison. anybody that has spent more than 10 minutes in a city would know

oh, well one step closer then
Hopefully the map will soon reverse so that only a few states don't have it and we can push for federal laws.
public opinion on gay marriage is changing, it really is inevitable.
fuck yeah my state.
I hope this spreads to other nearby states too, however
This is fabulous.
Most likely won't happen in Indiana.
Most likely won't happen in Indiana.
I'd have to agree it'll have a more conservative outlook on this til it gets roped in by force, indy is super red for being more or less surrounded by blue states.
Legalize it.
Huh, Illinois actually doing anything other than getting worse and worse? I'm proud of you, home.
Except for Texas. You know they won't legalize it. Florida has somewhat of a chance though.
If only Texas would, split chance will there ever be a headline saying it's legal in TX.
I dont think we should make a huge party over it, make it as normal sounding as possible. If we do so we can pass it off as the normal thing as it is.
Illinois congress actually got something done?!

Correction: Illinois congress doing something that isn't absolutely retarded and just another money-drain.
Oh good. My state did something right.
Good job, though. I'm hoping the more states that legalize, the faster the domino effect and the faster we get marriage equality to everyone.
Now if only they'd get rid of those god damn tollways
Considering we pretty much have a gay Chinatown I'm pretty surprised we weren't the first state to do this.
