A notorious 88-year-old Holocaust denier dubbed the "Nazi grandma" by German media was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison on charges of sedition relating to her claim that Auschwitz was never used for mass extermination. Ursula Haverbeck, whose criminal record includes other denials of the Holocaust, wrote several contributions to the magazine Stimme des Reiches (Voice of the Reich), in which she denied the existence of the Holocaust. In her closing words of the trial, she spoke of an "Auschwitz lie", claiming the Nazi camp in Poland was not an extermination camp, but instead merely a labor camp. read more: http://www.haaretz.com/world-news/europe/1.754412
http://www.haaretz.com/world-news/europe/1.754412
Holocaust denial being a crime is the dumbest shit ever
I'm so glad i'm in the US fuck those dumb rules
Holocaust denial is the dumbest shit ever
Fixed
Holocaust denial being a crime is the dumbest shit ever
I'm known for my own antisemitism but bro, you don't deny it happened.
Fixed
you're not seriously defending putting people in jail for saying stupid things are you
Fixed
You don't fuckin jail for it though, that's borderline thought crime! Jesus fuck and people get pissed and prissy here for mere mention of 1984
Fixed
People have every right to question all history no matter the subject, even if the evidence is overwhelming, it doesn't matter, shouldn't be illegal. People used to think they made soap and lampshades out of Jews, that turned out to be untrue, so I can understand why people would question it further.
You don't fuckin jail for it though, that's borderline thought crime! Jesus fuck and people get pissed and prissy here for mere mention of 1984
Not every country has freedom of speech.
Holocaust denial is deplorable, it should be publicly ridiculed, but it should be legal.
Fixed
"Fixing" his post would imply what he said was wrong, which he didn't. So, what exactly are you getting at?
I'm known for my own antisemitism but bro, you don't deny it happened.
You're known as anti-semetic because you flatly are.
Not every country has freedom of speech.
I would hope that developed, 1st world country like Germany would have freedom of speech, especially given their past.
It seems to me like criminalising Holocaust denial merely empowers Nazi idiots who see the whole world as some evil Jewish conspiracy. Perpetuating the idea that the Holocaust was a myth invented by international Jewry for their own nefarious aims is obviously dangerous because it fosters anti-Semitic hatred and bigotry, but the way to combat that is by continuing to give the absolutely overwhelming evidence that it did, indeed, happen, and accepting that some people are simply absolute morons who will never be convinced by any amount of evidence (see: deniers of climate change, evolution, round Earth, etc...)
Good thing this dangerous criminal is off the streets.
I am curious, given her age does she know something that we don't? and why is she saying such things.
Criminalizing holocaust denial (or any other sort of thoughtcrime) is so stupid and counterproductive on many levels.
You don't fuckin jail for it though, that's borderline thought crime! Jesus fuck and people get pissed and prissy here for mere mention of 1984
What happened in 1984?
Well, since everyone is advocating their unregulated free speech again. This should be illegal, should you go to prison for it, no, you shouldn't. Fines are enough. You shouldn't go around deny that these real terrible crimes have happened, if you want to deny them, keep that for yourself. I will be happy for each day, my country is not allowing people to go around spreading shit like this. It's a better place because of it. And no, that doesn't make it 1984 or whatever you think.
I am curious, given her age does she know something that we don't? and why is she saying such things.
My friend's grandpa tells everyone that the moon is a Nazi base. Just cos they old doesn't mean their opinions or beliefs are nherently valuable
What happened in 1984?
They're referring to the book.
handing out fines for people's ignorance doesn't really help the problem
It should make them think twice before saying it in public, so everyone else don't have to hear their ignorance. Of course, they should be educated on the matter. Fines are for when that doesn't help.
I'm known for my own antisemitism but bro, you don't deny it happened.
Thats not an excuse to throw people in jail. [editline]25th November 2016[/editline] Yeah its stupid to say, but its not grounds for jailtime.
whose criminal record includes other denials of the Holocaust
Imagine getting arrested for having an opinion
What happened in 1984?
This explains it better than I can.
The term was popularized in the dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell, wherein thoughtcrime is the criminal act of holding unspoken beliefs or doubts that oppose or question the ruling party.
It wasn't really important, I was just poking fun at the people whose feathers get rustled at the mere mention of it.
But why? Do other people's opinions bother you that much that you feel it's acceptable to punish them for offending you?
They are offending the memory of millions of victims and the decency of humanity. I couldn't care less if they got a little fine for that, they certainly deserve it.
pff guys we all know the holocaust wasn't real, it was just a projection on images that ~seemed~ like it was real, lmao I mean come on, it's 2016, you don't jail a person just because ole granma don't think millions of people died
They are offending the memory of millions of victims and the decency of humanity. I couldn't care less if they got a little fine for that, they certainly deserve it.
By that logic should we fine people who mock 9/11 too? Because to be frank, that's fucking retarded.
