Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film. Director J.J. Abrams says, "We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud." Star Wars: Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer. The movie opens worldwide on December 18, 2015.
won't this pretty much be Star Trek but with old people?
Getting a cast of unknowns (except for Serkis, since he played Gollum) is a smart move.
Driver and Issac aren't unknown either.

Probably could be. After all we're talking about Abrams, that one director who is also an American tank.
jeez Von Sydow is 85, amazed he's still acting.
Didn't he voice someone in Skyrim?
Harrison Ford? What's the dude gonna play? Han Solo with Alzheimer's or spinal problems? His role would seem a little outdated in my opinion.
Older wiser former Smuggler for Hire?
Harrison Ford? What's the dude gonna play? Han Solo with Alzheimer's or spinal problems? His role would seem a little outdated in my opinion.
Is there any particular reason why you're hating on him? He's acting career is still legit!
Glad to see more John Boyega, he was pretty good in Attack the Block.
Oh damn Daisy is qt as fook
Older wiser former Smuggler for Hire?
Perhaps, but I think his days as a starwars character are finished with, let a new generation of actors roll in.
Is there any particular reason why you're hating on him? He's acting career is still legit!
Sure he can still act, but for a starwars film it would be preferable if he wasn't a character.
You're right. Abrams should have given the role to Shia LaBeouf.
LetShia Labeouf take his place, but not as Han Solo, as a new character.
You're right. Abrams should have given the role to Shia LaBeouf.
George Lucas actually considered the idea of digitally replacing actors in the original trilogy for some modern-day actors. [t]http://i.imgur.com/pIQkw.jpg[/t]
So excited to see Oscar Isaac in this.
Picture of the new cast together: (OP I suggest putting it in the OP)
Harrison Ford gave possibly the most phoned in performance I've ever seen in Ender's Game. I'm afraid what Harrison Ford 2 years later will be like.
Didn't he voice someone in Skyrim?
He voiced Esbern. Max von Sydow is hardly and unknown. He was in Skyrim, Minority Report, Shutter Island, and of course he's Ming the Merciless from Flash Gordon.
And that poor R2D2

I would expect the main focus will be on the new actors with new characters with a passing of the torch kinda thing happening.
Yes, age does that to you. He cleans up very well on screen too!
Sure he can still act, but for a starwars film it would be preferable if he wasn't a character.
Why? He's more than qualified to reprise the role of Han. All the original cast is more than qualified to reprise their roles, assuming they aren't part the intense action parts. If anyone is questionable it's Mark Hamil, he hasn't been on screen much for ages! Mainly voice work. And he let himself go quite a bit.
Yes, age does that to you.
I was not commenting on the natural process of biological deterioration, I was arguing that his appearance will heavily affect the way the audience perceives the character. Han Solo as a elderly man doesn't suit me.
Why? He's more than qualified to reprise the role of Han. Why can't we view the film through a perspective of a basic rank and file stormtrooper, or a native of a planet of which is being occupied by the Empire.
He voiced Esbern. Max von Sydow is hardly and unknown. He was in Skyrim, Minority Report, Shutter Island, and of course he's Ming the Merciless from Flash Gordon.
Not to mention the seventh insignia.

Wasn't Oscar Isaac in Drive or something?
you know to this day im still excited about the continuation

Yeah these aren't exactly unknowns, a few are rather big names. I'm a little disappointed that Jesse Plemons, Hugo Weaving and Michael Fassbender aren't in it after the rumours a few months back.
Why isn't Eggs-Benedict Cumberbatch listed?
Harrison Ford? What's the dude gonna play? Han Solo with Alzheimer's or spinal problems?
Better recast - we wouldn't want to think that people age in the Star Wars Universe.
