This is true. But it's true because of the exploitation of immigrants. On one hand, allowing them into the nation allows for cheap labor, and efficient economy, and better lives for them- on the other, it exploits masses of human beings, denies them basic rights of citizens, and leads to higher crime rates, as well as feeds money to cartels.
Depends on what you see as more important- exploitation for better lives and economies, or freedom at the cost of no benefit from them.
I believe they think that its the poor person fault for being poor or something like that which explains why they like putting money on war but not helping the homeless
