The update opens something that Tripwire is calling the Trading Floor. This is an out-of-game place where the developer and members of the community can buy and sell in-game items. Everything contained here is a cosmetic item, offering no benefit to the player other than looking cool and changing the way their character and his/her weapons appear in the game.
Players will begin getting free loot drops at the end of matches, which will give them items that they can later sell on the Trading Floor if they wish. Otherwise they can use the item, or even trade it with a friend for that skin that they might not be using. Special crates and other locked items can also be found, but those will require spending some cash to get what’s inside.
“Horzine supply crates contain a single skin variant of a wearable cosmetic, chosen at random from a set of possible items for each type of crate. The crates can be unlocked with a decryption key purchasable from the Trading Floor or on the Steam Market. Accessories come in different skin variants and 6 tiers of rarity. There is also a chance the crate will contain a precious golden accessory.
Oh boy, another game to avoid entirely!
Wow.
What a slap to the face.
I don't know what to say.
Tripwire what are you doing? Do you need money?

Not so bad.

It's the principle of it all, especially considering the fact that it's still in Early Access.

I don't think I'm going to buy Rising Storm 2 at this point, this turned me off of them entirely.

KF1 had costume packs. Also they never said they wouldnt like Overkill.
The fact its durin EA is dumb tho
Dosh
Seriously though. That's a slippery slope they're going down, and it didn't seem really necessary to begin with
How about you finish the game before you ask me for more of my money? (The game isn't even worth the asking price, IMO. There's no content after the first 7 hours)
IT KEEPS HAPPENING!
It sounds like It'll be kind of like CS:GO so its not a massive deal.
If the items were able to be earned during gameplay.. I wouldn't be against it.
KF1 had costume packs.
While that's true, that also wasn't building an entire market around them, ala CS:GO. At least the costume packs were for individual use, and didn't have extra bullshit attached to them and you weren't, as far as I'm aware, forced to buy them. This system gives you crates you have to pay to unlock. Which is honestly really different, because now you're paying for something you don't even know what you will be getting.
Wow, that's sort of depressing. The game isn't even finished. I feel like there isn't even enough variety in the game already to warrant skins and that sort of thing.
I've been out of the loop on this game, did they ever add sharpshooter?
KF1 was a clusterfuck with all its cosmetics because it used the god awful steam store instead of a properly done microtransaction system.
Having a separate menu for cosmetics means it'll be easier to buy them, while still maintaining them relatively separated from the actual game so it doesn't clutter shit.
I don't get why people are mad at this. Boo hoo, the game doesn't give you free beanie hats. As long as all the actual gameplay mechanics, non-cosmetic weapons and maps are free, it's all fine and basically just a neat little way to support the developers if you're into personalizing your character to that sort of extent.
To everyone saying that this "isn't a big deal". It's a big deal. By defending this kind of business practice you're enabling devs to keep doing this bullshit. The game isn't even finished yet. Work is being taken away from FINISHING THE GAME to trying to suck more of your money into their pockets. We have been waiting MONTHS for new content for this game, even moreso before the last content pack.
Not so bad.
It's getting pretty tiring to see free to play tier shit pop up in games you buy.
And as a few other folks have said, to have the audacity to put it in an early access game really says a lot about the company behind this game

That makes it an even worse deal, because they tantalize you with ones you get without the crates, and then sprinkle some crates in as a way to reel you in and buy the keys. Not to mention now they're building an economy around it, in a 30 dollar (40 if you buy the Digital Deluxe version!) Early Access title where the Developers have barely put in the effort needed to get it out of Early Access!
If you can't see anything wrong with that, I am concerned.
Finish the game first for fuck sake.
It's all cosmetics quite bitching.
I was just having a discussion with a friend about this potentially happening and hey, whadd'ya know.
I don't really have an issue with it so long as it's purely cosmetic.
It's only cosmetics, nobody is forcing you to look different. Maybe the studio needs more funding and this is one way of doing it. If you don't want to support them then don't. If the items you got actually made a difference in gameplay then sure the outrage is warranted but it's cosmetics for crying out loud.
It's all cosmetics quite bitching.
lol no. It being cosmetics invalidates nothing. An Early Access game that is 30 dollars (40 with the deluxe edition!), and has barely had any updates (contrary to what the developers had stated), and are now attempting to milk even MORE money out of consumers.
Its an insult to customers.
As long as they are pure cosmetic, and don't pull a Payday 2. I'd say it'd be better than the other system, where you had skin bundles. As long as they are decent priced that is.
Though they need to wait til the fucking game gets done
guess this is why it's taken them over 3 months to model a rifle eh
[editline]23rd November 2015[/editline]
its early access and hasn't had an update in a long time
resume bitching
its also microtransactions in a game slated to be roughly 40 dollars on release
They've been doing plenty of shit for KF2..? They're still hard at work on this, you're making a big deal out of nothing.
We'll see what happens in the future (i.e they decide to take the Overkill route, which isn't fair to assume), but right now you're grasping at straws.
Why does every single god damn game now need hats and auction markets and shit?
I liked it the old way where one'd go grinding for hours to get an unique item.
Now it's like fuck that just drop by the nearest auction house and buy one, "or even better" use your real life credit card and get it instantly.

There was 6 months of literally NOTHING between EA release and the Demo/Firebug update.
KF1 had costumes AND non-cosmetic DLC guns.
At least it isn't those locked DLC weapons like in the first one.
Honestly, I'm really fucking glad I didn't buy KF2 when it first launched. RO2 had left a bit of a salty taste in my mouth, even though I wasn't there at launch but I know how they could fuck up easily.
This is legitimately insulting to me both as a consumer and as a human being, being treated solely as a wallet to be sucked dry and fucked. It's not OK for you to charge for your game, and then charge extra bullshit on top of that. Nice sized DLC I'm OK with, but this isn't even close to that shit.
Don't be so dramatic. The way you guys are making it sound, tripwire is holding everything you hold dear hostage and will only release it if you fork over your shekels for some sick skins. You don't even have to buy it if you're really against it, and if it's executed in a way like CS:GO (i'm not certain but aren't all the crate items made by modders and they're given some sort of cut or something like that? That seems like it'd make sense since the KF2 workshop has us voting on skins for guns instead of just having them kinda like CS:GO's workshop. If I'm wrong about how CS:GO's skins are handled PLEASE correct me.) it probably won't take time away from the main team like you guys are implying it will.
