Given the Onion News level of retardedness to this I felt I needed several sources.
All I can say to this is get fucked.
It's a fucking rag, who cares.

Don't let the muslims read this
I wonder what would the reaction be if some men began prancing about in hijabs to add a feminism twist to the entire kerfuffle
ideally they should be black and transgender too, then all hell gonna break loose
This should get into modern fashion and get more accepted. It's nice and colorful, you can make billion combinations, and you wouldn't need to worry about coloring and combing your hair.
I'm not joking.

I mean I agree they're nice looking but they're also religiously and culturally significant. It's not just some piece of clothing that you think looks cool, it actually means something to a lot of people.
I'm pretty sure that because of the way the hijab is worn, it blocks a small percentage of your peripheral vision.
I don't see how that raises awareness.

Over here only grannies wear these big napkins on their heads. They're colorful but they really don't look good. They don't go well with any clothing combination and look super out of place.
Hijabs can be pretty, yeah, but, shouldn't force anyone to wear 'em for any other reason than if they want to.
Hair is pretty, I like hair.
Nobody is being forced to do anything. It's a suggestion at most. "Hey guys, do this if you want."
My concern is if that will be considered an insult to their religion. I don't know the customs surrounding this so it could be considered blasphemous for a person not of faith to participate in their customs. For all I know, it could be akin to someone who isn't Christian wearing a rosary. It might not be in good taste.

Otherwise, why not?
Hijab can be quite disgusting especially during summer. I get on the bus and I'm usually surrounded by women wearing hijab + long sleeved clothing. The sweat is usually trapped under, and you can smell the reek of days old sweat when you are near them. They tend to wear the same piece for days before changing.
The Hijabi Woman's Scent is even a popular degrading meme in Turkey for this very reason.

it's completely subjective, but I hate the way it looks from a fashion standpoint. it gives women a 'granny' sort of look, to my eye anyway.

Would go hand in hand with the "dye your hair gray" fad.

Is that really a thing?
Is that really a thing?
It's not actual fad level at this point but I've seen it here and there.
I mean I agree they're nice looking but they're also religiously and culturally significant. It's not just some piece of clothing that you think looks cool, it actually means something to a lot of people.
Well it's not like headscarves and veils are exclusive to Islam either.
Why would anyone actually care about someone wearing a Hijab? The only religious clothing I can think of that people have a legit reason to be against is the one that covers their whole face except for their eyes (I forgot what religion this is for or what it's actually called).
I'm pretty sure the point of this is to get people to wear hijabs to see how they're treated differently. You might not think that people treat hijab-wearing people differently, but if you actually go out and wear one you'd pretty clearly see that people would act differently around you.
It's a neat idea. It's not like they're forcing people to wear hijabs, it's just a neat idea to get non-muslim people to recognize how muslim women are discriminated against.
How about we ban them instead to promote freedom instead, or has these silly aussies been in the locker for so long that they forgot what that is?

I don't have a bright view of the hijab either, but like it or not women choose to wear it. They should have the freedom to do so.

Why would you ban a certain piece of clothing? Censorship at its finest
I don't have a bright view of the hijab either, but like it or not women choose to wear it. They should have the freedom to do so.
Actually no, most of them wear it due to peer pressure from their families. And in Muslim countries, it's peer pressure both from family and public.

Promoting freedom by making sure those damned Muzzies don't get to wear their cultural clothing is the purest brand of freedom.

"Women can't choose for themselves so let's choose for them"
Actually no, most of them wear it due to peer pressure from their families. And in Muslim countries, it's peer pressure both from family and public.
Peer pressure accounts for a lot of things, the hijab isn't unique in that at all.
Also, banning the hijab would just put Muslim women between a rock and a hard place. If you wear it, you get in trouble with the authorities. If you don't, you get in trouble with your family or your local community.

Wouldn't a non muslim wearing these be "cultural appropriation"?
the thing you gotta understand is, when you're brought up to cover yourself up so much, being without your usual items of clothing would be like being naked. and with that in mind, try to imagine the perspective of a muslim woman hearing that all her traditional garments have been completely banned and she'll be fined/arrested for wearing them. how well is that gonna go down?
smooth transitions are all about exposure to better ideas and a slow willingness to accept them. there's really no way you can smoothly change this without working through generations of gradually westernized youths, and that's never gonna happen if you radicalize a generation of parents with bans and overt aggression. i'm kind of shocked how few people seem to understand this when they say that bans are necessary

I agree, they're pretty dope. I'm in the Arabic program at my university, and several of our professors straight rock that shit.
But, if you're not Muslim yourself, I'd imagine it's pretty insulting to go around wearing one just because it looks nice. How pissed would people get if I walked around dressed like a Catholic priest?
