I bet a lot of you grew up being told about kwanzaa, in school when you were learning about Christmas and Haunukah, you also were learning about Kwanzaa (not ramadan). Now, I thought that Kwanzaa was a special black Christmas because that's all they really taught us. I never knew what the fuck it was besides a black Christmas. Finding out it's only 50 years old kind of ticked me off. But finding out the basis of the holiday is both communist and poorly thought out... oh man.
That's right, Kwanzaa is a communist holiday. Bit hard to swallow witout proof, so i'll pull a bit up from wikipedia.
Umoja (Unity): To strive for and to maintain unity in the family, community, nation, and race.
Kujichagulia (Self-Determination): To define ourselves, name ourselves, create for ourselves, and speak for ourselves.
Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility): To build and maintain our community together and make our brothers' and sisters' problems our problems, and to solve them together.
Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics): To build and maintain our own stores, shops, and other businesses and to profit from them together.
Nia (Purpose): To make our collective vocation the building and developing of our community in order to restore our people to their traditional greatness.
Kuumba (Creativity): To do always as much as we can, in the way we can, in order to leave our community more beautiful and beneficial than we inherited it.
Imani (Faith): To believe with all our heart in our people, our parents, our teachers, our leaders, and the righteousness and victory of our struggle.
Kwanzaa is a seven day holiday. Each day celebrates something different, each one promoting an aspect of the holiday. The first day is unity. Alright, cool. The second day is fine too. But collective work and responsibility? Cooperative economics? Group work and development?

This isn't just some side notes, that's the basis of the holiday. On top of that, the NAME of the holiday is "matunda ya Kwanzaa", which is Swahili for "fruits of the harvest." That's right, Kwanzaa celebrates the harvest. In late December. And why Swahili? It's an eastern African language, whereas most black Americans are descendants from slaves from the coast of west Africa. Not really that strong a point, but... really?
And on top of that, the creator was an anti-white black nationalist felon. His organization, the US organization, was a strong black nationalist group and rival of the black panthers. He was convicted of torturing two women from the same organization he founded. The holiday was created as an alternate christmas, because "Jesus was psychotic, and that Christianity was a white religion that black people should shun."
Oh man. Now you'll never look at it the same again.
"Jesus was psychotic, and that Christianity was a white religion that black people should shun."
Hohohoho. Imagine if a white man said the same thing about, for example, Islam.
You truly are an insensitive fuck arent you?
I think you're reading too much into this.
We only learned about Christmas at school :(
I've learned nothing about holidays at school.
IT'S A CONSPiRACY! IT'S ALL ABOUT CONNECTiONS!
I think you're reading too much into this.
That's what they want us to think :tinfoil:
Funny though. He's saying it's "communist" then tells us how the creator is such a "nationalist".
Maybe the holiday thing was just me, but I remember making menorahs, Christmas trees and little Kwanzaa candle holders in elementary school.

"Hardline Muslims barged into a high-rise building housing the Danish Embassy on Friday to protest the publication of caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad, then tore down and burned the country's white and red flag.
The rowdy protest by about 70 people was one of the first in Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim nation, against the 12 cartoons that first appeared in a Danish newspaper in September. They were reprinted in several other European newspapers this week in a gesture of press freedom. "
I could get a better source, but meh. Google.
Oh no! THERE ARE OTHER COUNTRIES THEN AMERICA!
you are stupid and a tool
Nobody ever really took Kwanza seriously in the first place.
We just made little paper kwanza candle things in 2nd grade, and that's it.

but the fact that they acknowledged it's legitimacy especially in a country that is very anti-communist is sad
What's wrong with communism?
I was really surprised as well when I learned what exactly Kwanzaa entailed and who created it.
Once you know the real story it really makes you wonder why people give it so much recognition.

It's a flawed system.

Two words: Black sympathy.
We just learned about Christmas and Ramadan at school
Maybe because the only Jew's parents tried to sue the school for something
