In the prime time of Cartoon Network, the made a good decision; but this show on the air.Courage, as the intro above explained, was a dog that was abandoned, and found by Muriel, a cheerful, nice old woman who loves Courage, and her husband, Eustace, who is grouchy, who despises Courage and constantly scares him. The are a plethora of other characters, and many evil ones.
What made this show so great though, is the situations. Courage is by no means brave, and is frighted by everything, and yet, no matter what, he will rush into protect the only family he has, even though they're oblivious to their surroundings. Many episodes have very obscure references and very outrageous environments, which gives the show a fresh feel, even in similar situations.
The show started out as a 15 minute short, with courage protecting his family from an alien chicken, and just excels from their. One of the best episodes is probably one where courage and seven other previous villains get into a dodge ball fight. But Courage is also a very likable character, who when is put through so much, you just feel sorry for him.
My favorite episode is also the final, when you find out why Courage was abandoned, and even though the cause is abstract, the atmosphere makes it so sad.

only one episode every really got to me, and that was the episode with the pig diner owner who chopped up people to make food. I was going through a phase where that sort of shit scared the crap out of me - it was just after a string of the whole "FINGER IN THE CHILI!" scandals and I saw an episode of some crime drama where they were doing the same thing

Best show ever, if it were only possible to get a revival. :sigh:
I vaguely remember an episode in which Courage has to search through an old hotel building or something, and he opens various doors, revealing horrible things inside. That episode freaked me out as a kid.
