Bitter wind chill creates dangerous conditions across Northeast
Bitter temperatures and biting winds had much of the northeastern United States bundling up this weekend and the brutal weather was blamed for a deadly interstate pileup.
Through noon Sunday, the National Weather Service said, high winds could make it feel as cold as minus-25 to minus-30 in New York City and parts of Connecticut and New Jersey and as cold as minus-35 degrees around Boston.

Police said weather was a factor in the pileup Saturday in Pennsylvania that saw dozens of vehicles — tractor-trailers, box trucks, cars and SUVs — tangled together across three lanes and the snow-covered median of Interstate 78. A snow squall appears to have moved through at the time of the crash. Three people were killed and dozens sent to hospitals.
Just a warning to my new England brothers, wind chill -will- fuck you up, its practically 30 under here in boscawen and its only getting colder. Please bundle up, higher temperatures do plenty of damage on their own.
my arms already fell off, was only wearing a sweater and a coat
learn from my hubris
Michigan here. Can confirm that that northeast has entered a new ice age.
I feel sorry for you guys. It's only 60 degrees here in southeast texas. The entire state would probably go into mass panic if it got that cold anywhere here.
We've got it pretty bad in Chicago too and the wind is certainly not helping. This winter has been mild for us though so I suppose it's ok for us to have a bad day once in a while to remind us that we live in Chicago.
Dress in layers, don't be the idiot that wears Jeans, etc.
It figures that on the coldest day of the year my jacket's zipper would break, completely ruining my plans for tomorrow.
Temp with the wind chill hovered around -40 C where I am. Fun times.
"-17°F, Feels Like -35°"
Feels like Fucking Cold.

I was wearing a sweater, jacket, and a full body freezer suit and I was still mighty uncomfortable outside this morning.

Like I cannot stress this enough, these temperatures -can- kill you if you shit around in a button up and jeans. Wear layers
Times like these it's actually good to live in Florida. I'm wearing shorts indoors.

It could be -40 outside and I will still be wearing shorts indoors.
Nice and toasty here with a cup o' joe. Not leaving my fucking house.
Fuck that shit.
I live in Boston and one of my friends is trying to convince me to go out bar hopping with her tonight, I'm starting to have second thoughts.
I have to go shopping today and wait outside for the bus. Hopefully I will survive
Even Montreal is affected, I'm not going out this weekend

A good sign of things to come.

It's warmed up to a balmy -16 in Toronto.

Most people either insulate their pipes, heat their crawlspaces or outbuildings keep a lamp on to keep it just above freezing.
Most people also have Block Heaters.

Feel free to share some of that heat
I was on the Plains of Ohio. Shit was it cold and windy.
Was absolutely unbearable here in RI this morning. In my hometown in MA it was even colder.
Its starting to warm up now, but I am expecting it to plunge back into ice age territory as soon as the sun goes down.
Remember: weather is misery for the unprepared. Bundle up and/or stay indoors.
In Western MA it's this bad, yep.
My friends and I are all freezing our faces off. Well, not me really because I have a pretty great scarf.
WEAR SCARVES.
It's -8 celsius where I'm at still terribly cold though.
Could really use some of that cold here. I'm sick of warm ass winters here.
I currently live by the ocean near northern mass. I went outside today and had a chat with my brother who was visiting his girlfriend in the area and had mail for me. I went outside in a t-shirt, sweatpants, and a comforter cocooned around me like 3 times.
Bundle up.
