• Flooding in Pakistan - How to help.

Quoting a GBS Thread on Something Awful. I figure, if the SA thread has been able to raise near $9000 USD for Pakistan, Facepunch might be able to contribute a bit.
During previous catastrophes like the earthquake in Haiti, Hurricane Katrina, and the south Asian tsunami, a lot of goons put a lot of effort into raising awareness and encouraging donations. For some reason no one has done this yet for the flooding in Pakistan but it's really terrible so I figured it might be good to get some donations going from our userbase to help out both financially and in terms of attention. At least 2000 are dead and hundreds of thousands of homes have been destroyed. Hundreds of entire towns are just gone. However the worst is yet to come. The floods have destroyed a very large portion of Pakistan's fairly limited arable land. The real threat here is starvation and the spread of disease. There are a lot of great efforts already underway. I'm sure many of you know about or are even actively involved with some of the organizations that are helping out, so I hope you post about it if so. Here are a couple organizations I like and links to their pages where you can donate: Doctors Without Borders AVAAZ If you donate to AVAAZ, 100% of the money goes directly to Pakistan - specifcally they route it to local NGO's like Hirrak. For Doctors Without Borders you are simply contributing to the organization (who is actively working in Pakistan right now, among other places) I don't think you can choose specifically to what area the money goes, but I think they do a lot of great work. Personally I donated $100 through AVAAZ. If you are donating please post and this actually encourages others to do so - I've seen it work in the past! If there are other organizations working in Pakistan that you think people should contribute to, please post about them - but please don't get into fights about what organization is better than another etc. I'd also like to draw attention to the Google Earth team's effort in response to this disaster. This is especially helpful if you are in Pakistan or have family or friends there. They have created a person finding tool and are also mapping locations of flooding, aid stations, and more. They often respond this way to disasters and while I have no idea what amount of usage their tools actually get it seems like a great idea.
I've emptied my Paypal with about 21 USD in it for AVAAZ. I hope it helps just a bit. Post here if you donate! :unsmith:
The Fuck? Honestly, Facepunch is NOT the place to be asking for donations.
I don't need this money anyway
The Fuck? Honestly, Facepunch is NOT the place to be asking for donations.
Not everyone on FP is a dick. Besides if this thread generates a single donation it has been worth it.
Wait, what do we get in return for the money? A young, anorexic 9 year old slave? If we get nothing then fuck that; I'd rather get a lap dance.
I don't need this money anyway
Send it to me then so i can then donate for you :q:
I will donate soon.
I donated £20.
I donated £20.
Good job, you just bought a starving child a chicken drumstick, now he will live to watch his family die slowly in agony. You are a despicable human being. Sources: My own knowledge and experience; I went to Pakistan a few years back and learnt a lot. (User was banned for this post ("Dumb" - Benji))
I'll pour a 40 on the curb outside.
Not everyone on FP is a dick. Besides if this thread generates a single donation it has been worth it.
that 21$ will buy a crate of bottled water that will fall off the plane and kill a small child, thanks guys In all seriousness, I don't really like donating money to charity/aid because it usually doesn't go where they say it goes.
You seem like a douche.
Not really. When I visited Pakistan I gave everyone a chicken drumstick, not just one or two people. That's right, everyone in Pakistan was given a chicken drumstick by me. And you know, that's not half of it. I erected huge statues that pissed gravy. Yeah, you heard, motherfucking gravy. Who is a dick now?

Remember the Tsunamis in SE Asia last year? Yea, that dollar you'd rather waste will buy a family of three about two gallons of water and about two days of food. Which is alot considering some of the shelter's are packed with people that we help out each day. [editline]09:58PM[/editline] So basically stop being an angsty teenager that's mad at the world.
SHoGuNNeR What happened to your post count? I swear you had more...this is very kind of you to do this, and ask facepunch to help.
Long story short, massive gold member shitstorm. Also, cheers, I feel horrible just watching the news instead of actually helping. But sometimes I can't be there to help out, so, donating to organizations that I can trust is the next best thing. [editline]10:02PM[/editline]
I donated £20.
Cheers.

Donated already, hope people keep it up.
Donated already, hope people keep it up.
Cheers. I hope people keep it up aswell. It's been going really well so far.
There are enough shitty threads around, lets have a usefull thread for once. Can't donate though... :frown:
Whatever you're smoking, I want some of it.
Stop threadshitting with your bullshit.
Donating $15 as we speak! :)
Donating $15 as we speak! :)
Good job.
Also posted it on facebook, hopefully we'll get a little more message-spreading around here. Maybe if the damn medical companies didn't charge so much for supplies, a dollar could stretch as far as it used to :/
idc
I'd donate whatever I could, but unfortunately I'm broke as of right now. I'll find a way though.
idc
Christ. You don't care? Also just type it out ,this ain't phonepunch. It is dumb of you to type that, you did it just for the postcount. If you don't care: WE DON'T CARE THAT YOU DON'T CARE.
