The batteries were getting so hot the plastic casing around them was splitting. And Elmo was giving no hugs. "Right on the box there’s a child lying in bed with Elmo," said Waterhouse, who expressed concern about the possible fire hazard.
Sounds like he'll hug you all the way to hell.

Sounds like they wired a short in the factory.
And Elmo was giving no hugs.
Too hot then too cold
You could say the situation got steamy.
This is what is bound to happen.

I bet elmo has something else big other than hugs.
I bet elmo has something else big other than hugs.
His lovable laughs
His lovable laughs
His orange nose. [editline]27th December 2013[/editline] His dick.
You could say the situation got steamy.
False. There was no liquid inside the toy, thus no steam was produced, only smoke. /DwightSchrute
I killed a Furby once a long time ago by making it overheat. I stuffed it under the pillow on my bed just to keep it quiet after I accidentally woke it up. I figured it would go back to sleep on its own without any interaction. Instead, I returned a while later to a loud mechanical whining/grinding noise. The thing was hot to the touch, with its mouth and eyes stuck half-closed. The batteries burned my fingers a little when I took them out.

I had a furby that screamed with no batteries in it. He was my first gun casualty.
Always knew there was a reason I couldn't stand Elmo. The first sign it would pull something like this was when, I shit you not, some talking Elmo toy my cousin had when he younger asked "who wants to play with Elmo's big red monster?".
I had a tickle me elmo that turned on at night randomly and started doing its thing for like an hour. That thing scared me. I ended up throwing it behind some boxes and like 6 years later I find it randomly while playing hide and seek. It instantly turned back on. :tinfoil:
This is what is bound to happen.
absolutely terrifying
God, why must Elmo be so lewd?
I had a furby that screamed with no batteries in it. He was my first gun casualty.
You did the right thing, you must get them before they transform

Am I the only one who thought of "getting too hot" another way?

Update: Hasbro has acknowledged that elmo has a problem http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/big-hugs-elmo-overheating-batteries-not-an-isolated-case-1.2478047
