SoundCloud struck a landmark deal with Universal Music Group last month, but its latest financial filings suggest the company is in dire financial straits.
While SoundCloud brought in €15.37m ($17.35m) in 2014, it lost a total of €39.14m ($44.19m). Employee wages during that period also increased 42.5% to €17.9m, meaning that the average wage per employee for that year totalled €79,980.
The report makes it clear that while the company had “adequate resources to continue in operational existence for the forseeable future,” SoundCloud was heavily reliant on “further capital investment” to continue operating in 2015.
That tends to happen when you change it into something no one wants to use + copyright delete everyone's dumb meme remixes all the time.
SoundCloud was pretty good for a while but then they kept revamping their format faster and more often than YouTube that it just kinda fell apart. That and their pricing model change for premium memberships was fucking stupid. It's way too expensive.
Shame, I enjoy using it for Podcasts.
Whoever thought the autoplay feature they've got with random slightly related music was a good idea should get fired, however.
what will happen to all my macross future funk and shitty mashups
no really theres like no alternative
the soundcloud phone app is the worst piece of software i have ever installed
never have i known something to be SO unreliable
This is troubling, Soundcloud is Synthwave central to me. Its a great place to discover artists.
There's so much on there I'll miss. Just letting it play and roam around channels until you don't even know what you're listening to or how it got there but you know you'll never hear it again (because the browser crashed)
They deserve it for their volume slider design.

Oh my god this shit is so fucking bad, always had to reduce my browser volume from the windows sound manager.
this blows. I don't know what I'd switch to for finding a shitload of new music constantly if this happens, while the app is shitty and I don't agree with alot of decisions they've made. The site still has amazing things on it
Please don't let it die, it hosts pretty much all the music I like.
SC is fantastic for discovering new and underground artist? I remember finding Adventure Club before they got incredibly famous years back
I found Future Classics' catalog on there. And got completely sick of Disclosure - Latch well before it never. ever. stopped playing on radio for a few months.
Imagine if there was like Music Futures. invest in a song you think will hit big then cash out when it starts playing on radio.
Ah shit. The one Touhou Mix person that I care about is probably gonna get fucked over yet I'm not sure because I can't read moonrunes. v:v:v
Probably not honestly.
Welp, time to make a SoundCloud alternative and cash in

it's infuriating because it actually used to be better - for some reason they decided to streamline it to shit, removing the ability to view comments, moving your profile to be behind 3 pages, and taking the ability to upload shit - like you actually used to be able to upload audio through the app but they killed it for no reason.

Not as bad as bandcamp which simply doesn't have a volume slider.
Time to rip what you like with youtube-dl or similar, because unless they get some not-dumb people in charge AND a capital injection, then it's gonna go down the shitter.
Talk To Me in Korean.com uses soundcloud to host their audio lessons, so I'm wondering what they would do then to try to compensate for the bandwidth.

I'm pretty sure they only really started doing that once their funding was already in the gutter and they had to start buddying up with record labels.
If it goes down I'll basically lose my entire music library and all the playlists I've made, it's my main source of music :(
This will be really disappointing if true.
Should we start saving songs?
We must archive this https://soundcloud.com/dopeyziegler/whats-your-deal-ryu-gi
Somebody will buy it - Google Yahoo whatever, 44 million is pocket change for them
wow, time to raid my follows for bandcamp links and try and recover as much shit as I can from the site
Maybe, just maybe, now would be a good time for Google to launch an alternative and hope that it's not shit because of copyright.
I guess we'll all just have to move back to myspace then

google is literally the last person who should do this, bar none
it's going to be shit because of entire musicians being taken down for reasons they can't fix, randomly being hit by copyright strikes from 100% original music, being reported for nothing and then taken down
I'm almost offended that anyone would suggest such a thing

Fucking this. I use the iOS version and it's so awful. Terrible player design, lack of sorting options on lists, confusing navigation, and worst of all it often breaks the audio for the entire device and forces me to restart my phone completely.
If I pause something in the background to save for later and then come back and try to play it, bye bye audio. I've seen some shitty music apps with horrible issues (sup Google Play Music), but I've never seen anything else do something like that.
