She is asking for $75,000 in medical expenses plus punitive damages for negligence totaling $1 million. Paswall claims that she didn’t realize that she was walking into a wall of glass as she approached the store, and says that she broke her nose as a result of the collision. Her suit claims that “the defendant was negligent ... in allowing a clear, see-through glass wall and/or door to exist without proper warning.” The Manhassett Apple Store has floor-to-ceiling glass walls at the front and rear of the store, with doors in the middle at both ends. It's a similar design to the Scottsdale Quarter and Lincoln Park stores. Last year, Apple had white stickers installed on the transparent glass of all Apple Stores to help prevent such collisions from occurring. However, the plaintiff's lawyer says that any markings that were on the glass are insufficient, saying his "client is an octogenarian. She sees well, but she did not see any glass.”
The window stickers in question:
I'm more interested in what those balls in the image are for
Who here hopes she wins? :v:
I'm more interested in what those balls in the image are for
Innovation, the balls are truly revolutionary and will drive ball technology forward.
I'm more interested in what those balls in the image are for
Maybe they decided to make this?
I'm more interested in what those balls in the image are for
making microsoft feel small
Who here hopes she wins? :v:
Not me. The woman walked into the glass, why should she win? The story makes it seem like she just wants to make money off suing a big company.
Who here hopes she wins? :v:
It's something ridiculous. If you have great eyesight you should be able to see those doors, because those stickers make it pretty obvious.
Okay, while typically i'm angry or annoyed at apple for suing anything that poses a threat; this is just fucking retarded and now i'm actually rooting for apple in this case. That is, if it even makes it to court.
I hope she wins but not because I think her walking into the doors is Apples fault but because Apple as a corporation gets money from some pretty ridiculous claims in the patent arena and I know that the justice system is pretty fucked up.
Apparently breaking your nose is worth 75k in medical care and 1m in punitive now
I hope she wins but not because I think her walking into the doors is Apples fault but because Apple as a corporation gets money from some pretty ridiculous claims in the patent arena and I know that the justice system is pretty fucked up.
Don't quite see the link though. The justice system is screwed up since Apple can get away with patent trolling, BUT it is justified for this old lady to win the case despite the fact that (this was implied in your post, correct me if I'm wrong) it is not their fault? (Edit - which also means that the justice is not done in this case either, as with the rest of Apple's lawsuits) Two wrongs don't make a right.

I've seen flies use windows better. How do you even manage such a thing.
Last year, Apple had white stickers installed on the transparent glass of all Apple Stores to help prevent such collisions from occurring.
Why do they have to try and act slick about everything they do... it's just a sticker.
So just because it's apple they deserve being sued by a woman who walked into some glass by herself? A corporation is a bunch of people, the people running the apple store here have nothing to do with the patent trolls in the legal department

Glass is a deadly material and it's almost perfectly transparent properties makes it even more deadly. The way apple dealt with it by adding small white stickers is very lacking on effort as well, they're not exactly colorful enough to stand out nor are they accustomed to every height. I can easily imagine a young child speeding towards the glass trying to grab the balls just because they look like toys only to smash straight into the glass panes, causing serious harm. Hopefully if they lose this lawsuit they may think it's cheaper for them to tint the glass to be less transparent than to put up with another lawsuit.

Even though I hate Apple, I hope they win this time You have to be fucking stupid and also blind to walk into a glass door

I was just being vindictive towards Apple and my logical world view kind of left
I'm more interested in what those balls in the image are for
Sucking. It is an Apple store
Seriously? You must be the pinnacle of maturity.
that shit should justify an auto-ban
If i can get alot of Money from running against glass, why not. I might not even need a job
Read about this in school this morning. That woman is a moron for even putting something like this up for the jury to look over. Waste of resources.

The woman is dumb and senile.
