In the latest attack, eyewitnesses said a missile struck as people queued for food.
At least 30 people were also hurt, Palestinian officials said. Images showed injured children being carried away.
Robert Turner, director of operations for the UN Palestinian refugee agency in Gaza, said: "The locations of all of these installations have been passed to the Israeli military multiple times. They know where these shelters are. How this continues to happen, I have no idea."
incompetence at best, war crimes at worse. gj.
No matter what reason there may be for hitting the school - whether accidentally or intentionally - this is a disgrace. Why isn't there any kind of intervention? The situation clearly calls for it.

Well for one this is a war, and it costs money to intervene. No one intervened when the U.S plowed Fallujah.
Oh shit I forgot, the U.S isn't Israel so it doesn't get the 500% buff on all bad moral choices.
Srsly someone at the UN needs to say
"listen m8 if you hit another one of our fucking schools we're going to drop a load of sanctions on your incompetent asses"
like that would ever happen lol
Bombing of UN schools and schools in general should be labelled war crimes just like Churches and Mosque are
[editline]3rd August 2014[/editline]
Unless they aren't already, some commanders need to stand before a international criminal court
They know where these shelters are. How this continues to happen, I have no idea.
I think I have a pretty good idea.

I think that is already the case. I think its the basic infrastructure that youre not supposed to bomb, i.e. Hospitals, Schools, Shelters etc.
[editline].[/editline]
Is every school in Gaza of the UN?
There's no way they aren't targeting these schools intentionally.
I think I have a pretty good idea.
More nations need to call them out on the behaviour..
It's disgraceful, malicious, and unwarranted.
Time for another strongly worded letter
This is the exact same shit as with Russia and Ukraine. Everyone seems to be mad but nothing is done.
heh, its war! you can't avoid bombing children. and who is to say these children won't become violent terrorists in 15 years??
Gee, it's like they want the UN and every other international body to pull out. Same with journalists.
No witnesses means no stories.

Like sanctions work. I can't think of a single sanction in modern history that has ever made a world leader go "Hey, yo, wait a minute we should probably change X".
Nah. Historically, responses range from pure apathy and indifference("Meh it isn't hurting us any I couldn't care less") to outright spite.

Who's going to intervene?
Who's going to intervene?
He probably meant the US because that's the way it works.
US doesn't intervene = people get mad
US intervenes = people get mad
At the start of the invasion, I felt "Well, maybe they'll only go after Hamas". Then it started to get a bit ugly, so I felt "Okay, well, these are some mistakes but it is war after all".
Then it's this. Constantly. I don't know what to think anymore.

It's quite obvious that the IDF is using civilians as target practice.
That's what you get when you conscript your youth and brainwash them in to hating everyone other than themselves.
"The locations of all of these installations have been passed to the Israeli military multiple times. They know where these shelters are. How this continues to happen, I have no idea."
It's pretty clear how it happens. Someone in power says "bomb that school", someone lower in the chain of command (hopefully reluctantly) bombs the school.
This is just fucking terrorism at this point.

People will get mad no matter what happens, it's more important to do the right thing regardless of what kind of popularity contest is going on.

Palestinian people are the target of this war, not just Hamas. They are being punished for supporting Hamas, plain and simple.

If my family died in a fucking UN shelter, I can see why.
FYI for those un-aware - the school was never hit.
The strike happened outside of the school - and though tragic those (civilians) injured were, they occurred outside of the school gates.

revisionism
it killed those at the school
this is simply the end of a very long stalemate
like the romans in the 3rd Punic war, they want the people gone and the lands salted
why the Palestinians stay is beyond me

its their home
you shouldn't feel the need to kowtow to a larger power just because they want your land
not these days

The deaths are a tragedy of course - but the school is a shelter not the surrounding streets. If I were under attack and had to go to a bomb shelter, decided to go outside (to smoke for example) and were hit by shrapnel I couldn't then claim I was hit in my bomb shelter.
I personally think they shouldn't have struck in such close proximity to the school and clearly it was a big fuck up on someones part, but the tone in this thread as though they nuked the school is completely invalid.

A missile hitting close enough to a school to kill 10 people living there counts as a hit on the school.

Source to say 10 people living there were killed (vs 10 people on the street)?.
As far as I'm aware the school suffered ZERO physical damage and people were only injured outside of it. I'm not denying its a bad thing, I'm just saying you can't claim the school was hit when it occurred outside of the gates.

The ones that died, sure. The ones that didn't will.
