Navy veteran pulled over by MRAP and combat geared police officers

because he flipped them off
then they try saying that they pulled him over because he was getting head while driving.

i dont know what to say
That's... kind of scary. And bullshit dickwaving on the cops part, holy fuck.
Why flip off a cop randomly? I don't get it. Unless you're an asshole.
"tanks"
there is literally no reason they need to be fully geared up and patrolling in an APC.
they've got deltoid protectors, plate carriers and woodland digital TRU combat shirts and pants
they're literally geared like airsofters but with actual armor
grunts in iraq and afghanistan barely even used add on armor like groin flaps and deltoid protectors. shit might be level 3a rated but those were more likely to protect you from shrapnel than any bullet, regardless of caliber.
so that begs the question
do these cops expect to get attacked by explosive munitions while they're patrolling an american city in an armored vehicle?
and then pulling someone over after they get flipped off and instead claiming it was because he was getting head?
1. are their feelings really so hurt over being flipped off?
2. do they even have anything better to do? they're patrolling in a MRAP and full gear [questionable] and the most action they get is stopping a veteran from getting head, regardless if he was getting sucked or not [very questionable]
[editline]15th April 2015[/editline]
and then they've got all that armor and they don't even bother wearing helmets
why even wear a plate carrier and camouflage in the first place if you're not going to protect your most vital part of your body
literally geared like airsofters.
They're pretty goddamn butthurt over being flipped off. Probably on a power trip being in an APC in full gear, decided to shit on the guy. The first sheriff is incredibly passive aggressive about it, saying "you can flip us off that's fine :)" but the rest of the guys just totally piss on the dude.
Speaking of the rest of them, they were just fucking standing there jerking off! Fucking waste of money!
I try to be on the cops side of things but this is a clear-cut power trip. The more I think about it the more upset I get at this stupid, petty shit. You'd think with aaaaaall the media coverage cops are getting, all of them would be on their best behaviour.
At like 4:40 did anyone else hear what the fucking bald cop said
tl;dr he goes [B]"you can film but don't you point that camera at me because it could be a firearm"[/B]
i have not heard this much bullshit out of police before
what the fuck
I hate to be 'that guy' who comes into every thread and shits on police but if you're driving around in an APC wearing camo, you're fucking garbage. You're a textbook example of what's wrong with police in the US.
Why the fuck do you guys assume they patrol with it? Maybe they were training, drill, on the way back form responding to another incident, or something like that. I very highly doubt they drive around in it geared up for patrols. I doubt any officers want to be constantly geared up.
Just providing a little more information here that people seem to disregard: those trucks are street legal, anyone who can afford to buy one can drive it (provided of course they're legally qualified to drive at all), it just happens that police and private security tend to be able to afford them more often than individuals because cops can buy used from other government organizations and security companies are loaded.
And if their police department is anything like mine they probably have cars breaking down with some degree of frequency, so they use what they can, even if it's not exactly suited for the situation.
I actually think this is awesome. I would love to go to work and get to pull over chumps with a gigantic armored truck.
It is a teeny bit overkill though and Im hopeful its what gjsdeath is saying.
Also I'd think an armed forces veteran of any sort would know the difference between an armored car and a tank.
I didn't see the cops, their camo was too good

If I recall correctly they're a bit tricky to get since the cost makes most of the dealers only sell them in orders of mutliple vehicles or rentals, both for commercial purposes. Legal to own, but a right pain to get unless you represent a reasonably sized business or government agency. Give them a little time and the availability should go up quite a bit, you'd be amazed how easy it is to get old Cold War materiel, from both sides.
I know I shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but the dude really doesn't look the part of a veteran. I thought most were taught discipline and self care? He looks like he's been through a haymaker, then shat out, and thrown through a shitnado.
Apparently it's a SWAT APC which isn't really anything shocking or new, just odd that they'd be doing routine traffic stops.
gotta get that window tint

"And so, because it might be a firearm, I'm only going to allow you to point it at me if you point it at all of us."
Honestly, I don't think they were "patrolling" in the Bearcat. They were probably coming or going to a training range or back from some sort activity they needed to be geared up like that.
It's not a tank. It's a Bearcat, an armored vehicle. It's not an MRAP.
That all being said. I think it's kind of dumb they decided they needed to pull him over while riding around and in full kit. They should have just let it go or let a regular unit handle it instead of doing what they did because they HAD to have known it was going to be a big shitfest.
Also the guy is an asshole. He flipped them off which is a dumb move and he allegedly was getting head, which I honestly doubt but he was a dickbag and it's obvious that they pulled them over to scare him and give him a hard time for being a dick.
Honestly, both parties are being dumb. But I think the guy was ultimately wrong and the cops were right. They had a valid enough reason to pull him over, since it's legal to use hand signals in place of blinkers and by extending his hand straight out the window to flip off a cop I could see how it could be misinterpreted as a signal for a lane change or turning indicator or something.

Not to mention he has no idea what a tank really is. The bearcat is literally the same as the armored trucks that banks use, it just has different angles, a black paint scheme and light bars on it. But it's the same thing in function and in design. If you as a private citizen wanted one you can buy one too, it's not like it's a special death machine.

Well, the deltoid and groin protectors are actually a lot more reasonable for SWAT and other domestic tactical units to wear compared to military. I mean, most SWAT teams literally gear up, get in a truck, drive to the destination, get out, raid the building which is usually over in like 15 minutes than get back in the truck and drive away. In the military no one wears that crap because it's a hot ass desert and they have to wear it all day long and they sacrifice the protection (albeit minor protection) for comfort.
Also they probably aren't wearing helmets for the same reason that you don't use flashlights during the day. They didn't need to be wearing them at that particular time. They were driving from some place or going to/from a training facility I'm pretty sure. I don't see why they have to wear their helmets like they're Marines in Afghanistan when they're driving down a Florida highway.

Just an additional anecdote to make on the matter of hardware availability: if police were actively trying to become paramilitary in this country, they'd be importing Belarusian T-34s. Not second-hand buffed up versions of the armored cars they've had a clear need for since 1985 (and that banks have been using for even longer).
Not gonna lie the guy who recorded the video sounds ignorant as fuck.

Yeah cause y'know cops get trained all the time with anti-flac plates and APC's
Tell me one good reason that a police department should have an MRAP at it's disposable, let alone be training officers with

because it's not an mrap, it's a bearcat. and also because it's swat.

yeah I guess bulletproof vehicles won't have any use in a shootout or siege situation

ah, my bad
what is swat doing pulling over people though?
Even then, does swat expect to deal with explosive rounds or what, those giant plates are still pretty pointless

So we don't have another North Hollywood incident?
