Would "Personal Attack Defence Spray" be legal in the UK? - General

Hello Facepunch, I decided to post this here as the fast threads section seems to be full of nincompoops. I have a friend in the UK and she is worried about being assaulted, I was talking to her and she says pepper sprays are illegal over there, a quick google search seems to confirm this. Its basically a potential weapon that can be used as something offensive as well, and thats what the police would think if they see something like that. lets look at it from another perspective... what if a criminal assaults an innocent person with that`?

In England, basically any form of self defence that isn't your own fists or perhaps a walking stick is illiegal.

Depends, most of it is illegal. You can try using a GEL/Dye like spray, it isn't as effective as real pepper spray but it isn't illegal in the UK. Any weapon of whatever description designed or adapted for the discharge of any noxious liquid, gas or other substances are illegal.

Pepper spray should be legal and maybe close range tasers. But not guns

Tell her to get martial art classes or to stop dressing like a slut if she thinks she's going to get raped.

Not too sure on this BUT.... If you can a weapon with intent of doing harm to someone, that's illegal in the UK. However if you used it for something else and it was just convieniently 'there' and you used it in self defence, it's legal. Say you were threatened by bob. Bob said he'll come an attack you at night while your sleeping but he doesn't say when. So you put a hammer by your bed intent on harming him if he comes in, now that's illegal. However if you hung a picture up and used the hammer to hammer the nail in but left it by your bed, that's fine. It's what's going through your mind at the time that matters in that scenario. Then again I could be wrong!
