My mobo died so I ordered a new one. How can I save my data from my hardrives? One Hd has a windows partition and the other is all documents and shit, no OS. Can I install windows onto a third Hd and then hook up the other two and get my data?
You can simply disconnect your hard drives from your old motherboard, then connect them to the new motherboard. Start up the computer and you're good to go! There is no need to buy a new hard drive or reformat anything.
I thought you had to reinstall windows for a new mobo?
You might have to yell at microsoft support on the phone for a bit, but it'll work.
I thought you had to reinstall windows for a new mobo?
Not at all. Just plug it in and you're good to go. Windows will detect new hardware and will require you to re-validate.
Seem to be having another issue. When I plug in the power supply the green light on the board blinks green. Also the power supply does not spin up or turn on at all. However when I test the power supply with a Safety pin by jumping the to wires the power supply fan spins very very slowly. Is my psu shot...
Whether Windows will move between boards depends on what version are on. If it's 7, you're good to go, not sure about Vista, and on XP, there's guides for it around the internet, but it involves repairing your installation.
No. If the motherboard is different model it will BSOD. Reinstall windows using custom installation, without reformatting and it will put it all of your data into windows.old folder on the install HDD.

Unless Consie O'Brien is trying to install on some inbred toaster-computer I think default drivers will work for it.

What happens on Windows 7, it freezes the animation and bluescreens.
