Hamilton is waking up to some chilly temperatures, strong gusts of wind and slippery conditions. After last nights snow fall, allow your self some extra time to scrape of your icy windshields before heading out onto the roads.Tuesday’s rain started around mid-day and the snow began later on leaving a few centimeters in Hamilton. The temperature stayed around the freezing mark until 2 a.m. when it fell three degrees and has been falling ever since making for an icy trek outside.
However, there are no accidents to hinder the morning commute at this time.
“It’s definitely going to be a chilly day, temperatures aren’t really moving much from where they are right now, the wind is going to make it feel colder for much of today,” said Geoff Coulson, climatologist, Environment Canada.
Currently it’s -7.2 C and a very cold -16 C with the wind chill. Northwest winds are coming in at 30 kilometres an hour and gusting up to 50 kilometres but should taper off by late afternoon.
Coulson said the winds won’t necessarily make it dangerous for driving, but he does warn of on ramps and off ramps on the highways that will be extra slippery.
“It’s definitely something to keep in mind, especially if you don’t have snow tires—you definitely want to take it easy this morning given the fact that there could be a number of places with icy or slick conditions,” said Coulson.
There is still a 40 per cent chance of snow flurries early in the morning that should also clear by noon. The temperature is expected to fall to hover around -6 C this morning and stay there for most of the day.
Clouds will increase into the evening where a low of -9 C is expected.
Thursday’s forecast will bring some snow beginning around noon, about 2-4 centimetres with a high of -1C.
Temperatures will go up on Friday with a high of 3 C and periods of rain and will continue through the weekend and into the New Year.
Quite some interesting stuff.
Maybe I'm missing something, but how is this surprising? It's the dead of winter...in Canada. It gets MUCH colder than this.
you should put 'in Canada' somewhere in the title so people don't think that the temps are in the minuses in lower Alabama

This is the first time this winter that the temperature is below 0.
There is always a surprising temperature somewhere in the world to report on.
Except this isn't it.
In other news, it's expected to get over 90 degrees in Death Valley this summer.
I thought local weather forecasts weren't allowed.
I thought local weather forecasts weren't allowed.
To be fair it isn't mentioned in the rules section.
This is the first time this winter that the temperature is below 0.
Not to sound callous but...so? Today is the first day this winter that the Northeast USA will be in the teens (with wind chill). Not that big of a deal, really.
where is hamilton and why is this sensational
This is the first time this winter that the temperature is below 0.
Do you also report the first time temperature goes over 0 after winter?
Yeah, nothing special. Had a high of -20 earlier this year here in Denver.
This is the first time this winter that the temperature is below 0.
Maybe in your place. We've had subzero temps for quite a while.
Hamilton went below 0 degrees? Stop the fucking presses!
This seriously isn't news. We get cold temperatures all the time, yes we've had an unusually warm winter in Ontario, but the temperature dropping below 0 still isn't news.
It's usually cold in the winter OP, not sure if you got the memo.
In another news: Quite a lot of places reach sub-zero temperatures during winter

I also love how op added that it's quite interesting stuff.
So what? It's -11C right now, with a -21C windchill. And to boot, we just got 35cm of snow dumped on us. Oh, and tonight it's supposed to go down to over -30C with the windchill.
Welcome to Canada.
We even get -10°C in nothern Italy, I don't see how this is anything out of the ordinary
I hate snow
Especially when it gets all slippery and you have to go to school on your bike which takes 30 minutes, since they don't do salt on those kind of roads
well if you cant take the heat.... wait what
I found a news story of sub-zero temperatures several months ago... in Texas

Tell me REAL weather news, like if it stops raining for 5 or more minutes in Britain.
Breaking news, it snows sometimes in CANADA!

We haven't even gotten sub-zero temperatures (F) in South Dakota, let alone snow. The other day it was warm enough you didn't need to wear a coat. It was like 60 degrees.
Yellowknife called. They said "lol".
isn't -9 only like 15f?
Central North America usually hits -20c

yeah and it won't be the last
In other news, it's expected to get over 90 degrees in Death Valley this summer.
In Other Other news, the world is round and the moon goes round it. :v:
Fun fact
-40 Farenheit is the same as -40 Celsius
Bitch please, Wisconsin gets in the negatives on a regular basis

It's been extremely warm recently. Where I live, it has yet to drop below 55 degrees AT NIGHT. And most days it's still around 80.
Granted, I live in Florida, but the past couple of years it FROZE here.
