This sounds interesting though, with more emphasis on indie games and shit than Steam (and that's saying something) but it just seems to me that adding another distribution system to the mix is confusing.

Look at this shit. Even though Steam is obviously the dominant one and a few of these probably have nothing to do with gaming, it's just making it confusing. I'm not really sure whether or not that consoles are at the advantage here: they have a simple, centralized, system that's a mandate for everyone else to follow if they want to sell games online for that platform, but on the other hand, it's more cruel to the smaller developers.

In more simpler terms, in my opinion adding new distribution methods for gaming is only adding confusion, whatever type of developer they wish to choose. At least Valve jumped in on the correct moment and created (what is mostly) our equivalent of XBOX Live or any of that shit.
I love how many of those are failed Microsoft projects
The design of the service itself seems to be well up there with Steam, but it has no existing playerbase and will not thrive with Steam still steady on the market.
I was in the beta, it's nothing special. Pretty much a worse version of Steam. The only good part is how well it works with mods but I wouldn't dream of buying a game there over Steam. They should just work on combining this with Steam.
Full mod integration would be a great new expansion for Steam, I mean they are already offering downloads for some of the more popular ones.
How many of your actually understand that this is gonna be for digitally distributing Mods and Indie Titles?
It's not a replacement for steam, this of it as a step brother from the SDK side of the Family.
I thought Desura was just for easy mod distribution.
Been waiting for a while to this.
It's a place for mods and indie games and definitely it's not trying to compete with steam.
Some of these sites are okay. Gamersgate does amazing deals. Direct2Drive usually pulls out some nice coupons. EA store can be confusing though. I prefer Gamersgate though. Really simple and affordable most of the time.
