How i accidentally stole the hat of a BBC kids show presenter

On Wednesday i was part of the camera crew for the BBC Create and Connect conference wich happened to be held this year at my university (UCLan). The conference highlights new talent and the shape of things to come in the world of the BBC television and new media.
Here's a picture of my camera position during the rehearsal on tuesday.

As part of the camera crew providing the conference hall with the projected magnification of what was going on on-stage, i didn't have a real opportunity to pay attention to the presentations themselves due to me having to listen to a camera director in one ear, and keep my shots in frame and in focus. This was a real shame as there were some celebrity guests that i was looking forward to listen to (Nick Park, creator of Wallace and Gromit, and Victoria Wood, a comedienne and actress).
After the first half of the conference and between lunch, there were a series of workshops in different areas of the conference building. These included, among others, a BBC radio workshop, a Dr. Who workshop and Mr Bloom's Nursery workshop. The latter was a workshop where the kids show (cbeebies) presenter Mr Bloom himself talked about his show and had some fun with the audience along with the producer for the show talking about how it will be moving the the new BBC North site.
Now at this point i must point out that i did not attend any of these workshops, as I and the rest of the tech crew were getting their lunch as there was a rehearsal directly after the workshops when everyone else was due to get their lunch. I also want to make it clear that i had not heard of Mr Bloom's Nursery at this point either. I had guessed that it was some from of children's entertainment, but did not know that it was a fairly popular kids TV show.
After i arrived back from our lunch, Mr Bloom's workshop had just ended and there were a few people milling around on the stage area, one of whom was this guy dressed like a gardener, wearing wellies, a gardening tool belt and this straw hat. I gave him a smile as i returned to my camera position ready for the second half rehearsal.
I found a video clip of the workshop from a newspaper also covering the event.

Skip forward to after the conference had ended and pretty much everyone apart from the tech crews had left. I was helping strip the lecture theater of the various cables that had been laid specially for the 4 cameras, sound, lighting and talkback. I brought some cable that i had coiled up to the back of the theater where the rest of the coils were being gathered. As i put the coil down, i spotted this straw hat under a chair against the back wall. I picked it up and put it on. I asked if this was any of the crew's hats, and they all said no, and didn't know where it came from. After i while i remembered the funny guy dressed as the gardener and mentioned it to one of my crew mates. We agreed that it must have been his, and then thought nothing of it as he had left long ago. I wore the hat for the rest of the day and took it home with me.
Later that night, i thought that i should have a look who this Mr Bloom was, after a quick googling, i found that he was indeed a TV presenter of his own show.

After i saw these, i realised that he wore the exact same hat in everything he does. The exact same hat that i now have.
Here is the hat i have.

As you can see, they are one and the same. The hat looks a bit worse for wear, with the peak being a bit broken and the rim being slightly separated form the top of the hat at the back. This indicates that the hat gets worn quite a lot, he must have used this exact hat in everything. He probably only has this one. I wonder if they will use a different one in the next series if they dont get this one back.
So yeah, that's the story of how i accidentally came about being in possession of the actual, trademark hat of a BBC children's show presenter.
If anyone from the BBC is reading this, please contact me and i will gladly return the hat to you.
Sell it on Ebay

it was a joke wow, you need to lighten up
Keep it until the next episode or whatnot airs to see how they replace it. Would be sort of silly.
Talk about a hat trick :rimshot:
Nice one!
It's a decent looking hat, aside from the damages.
I think you should try and perhaps e-mail them, just to show you didn't take it on purpose. Even if they don't want it back it would be a nice gesture.
Oh god that is hilarious.
Hat thief.
Stop right there criminal scum
If he left it there and never came back for it then you didn't really steal it
Yeah you should contact the BBC and give the hat back, he is probably missing it
I'm sure the hat is replaceable, it doesn't look one of a kind
Watch there be an episode about how he lost his hat.

Don't be a cunt, he probably loved that hat considering the damage on it and he was still wearing it. Return it.

Or this, probably.
I wonder what hat the presenter now wears on TV
I'll give you an unusual for it

it is a hat
I don't think many people would lose sleep over a missing hat
Trade it for Metal!
Yea just e-mail them, say it was an accident, etc.
I agree that it is probably best to try and email the BBC about this. Just as a gesture to them so they aren't accusing you of a thief. If they have to contact you first that would just increase the chances that they believe you intentionally stole it for ebay or whatever.
Good luck finding the proper contact details on their website. I just tried to look for you and it's going to be hidden quite well it seems.
Also lol first post. I don't think gold member is happening any time soon.
Sell it for ransom, say that if they don't pay that you'll kill him erm the hat.

Still, it's the principal of it. I am attached to this watch I have, some shitty $40 dollar watch, had it for about ten years. I spent $135 to get that fucker repaired, call me crazy, but you CAN get attached to an inanimate object.

Also shows that you cared instead of waiting for them to ask you.

Obligatory black kid.
Also I love stories like this.
You gotta tell us how it ends.
burn it
You're an asshole. :saddowns: Return it, karma is a bitch man...
Put the same hat without damages in the studio then walk away like nothing happened, watch how the hat magically fixed itself on TV.
I'll give you 6 refined metals for it. And perhaps a Stout Shako.

I became really depressed after I misplaced my panama hat that I had for 3 years. I found it later but still.
