Michelle Bachmann: "Why do we have a Department of Education?"

[release](CNN) - Painting herself as a "constitutional conservative" Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann told Sen. Jim DeMint's forum Monday that if elected president she would look to get rid of the Department of Education, among other things. "Because the Constitution does not specifically enumerate nor does it give to the federal government the role and duty to superintend over education that historically has been held by the parents and by local communities and by state governments," she said, responding to a question by DeMint, a popular figure among the tea party movement.[/release]

I have actually ceased to be surprised by the antics of American politics. My expectations for the future of the country, and by generous extension, the world are dropping with every press conference. Even if Obama gets re-elected, it is still just delaying the inevitable, republican clusterfuck of a government.
Another reason why she isn't going to be elected.
I hope she keeps it up so she can guarantee she will never be elected for anything again.
My faith in humanity plummets further and further each day.

Since at least half of America doesn't look up the background views of a politician and the results of the Iowa poll are correct, she has a pretty decent chance.
Oh wow, that's a garuntee'd NO for bachmann
If they elect her, I'm going to kill myself

What, because of this wacko, unelectable bitch? Like hell, my faith in humanity (or at least part of it) will plummet only if she gets elected. If that happens I'm learning German or French or something and moving to Europe.
for fuck's sake what are people like her doing in the 21st century

Iowa is a really Red State, the results of the straw poll have never predicted the winner of a general election.
I just have a question, what could possibly be the worst thing that could happen if we let the states themselves dictate their own education, other than there not being a one standard in education?
"Gee...I don't know Bachmann, maybe it is there because the US always under-performs in every Educational category in the world."
This kind of stupidity really makes me want to get my dual citizenship in Germany. Don't worry guys, it is DEFINITELY not for that legal prostitution. >.'
If anything, education is one of the most important.
Well, for the record, it's understandable that she would think it's useless.
I mean, it's not like its ever done anything for her, so she must think it's like that for everyone.

Apparently doing very well in politics.
This has to be a fucking joke.

Bigger disparity between rich and poor in schools, some schools have far more funding then others, privatization of all schools in a given area, re-segregation (this is unlikely, quite literally a worst-case scenario), and a non-standardized curriculum (teaching intelligent design but not evolution, teaching only abstinence, etc.) just to name a few.
the current state of michelle bachmann's mind is actually a lot like the current state of the department of education
dumb and inefficient

This man must be correct! Surely the Ames Straw Poll was made so important because it's right so often. Let's have a look at it's outstanding record:

Well, 1/5 ain't bad...
... wait, yes it is.

AKA: Bachmann won a poll. Big whoop. Polls mean jack shit at this point in the game. Once the light hits her if - IF - she stands up with Obama at a debate, then the real fun begins.
Politicians just do this kind of shit to get public image. Fucking they are ran by evil fucking robots I swear to fucking god, a puppet of the overmind.

How does this Bachmann even know how to breathe?

States with extremely strong religous right-wing movements in them could prevent the teaching of subjects like evolution, abiogenesis, the big bang etc, could teach the bible or other holy texts as fact, etc...
US Politics, Earth's #1 Tragic Comedy!

To answer Michelle's question: For people like you, Michelle.
WE SHOULD JUST TAKE BACHMANN

AND PUSH HER - SOMEWHERE ELSE!
She has a good point about states and whatnot but I don't think it matters because I think there's no chance of Bachmann getting elected and don't know why people take her seriously. She's like Sarah Palin.

It's not a particulary hot subject in the UK since we don't have a codified one :v: Also, Bachmann is saying she wants to remove the ability of the Federal Goverment to define education, and it's fairly obvious what I've mentioned isn't fair off the mark of what she wants.
Just make her president already, whats the worst that can happen.
