Please forgive my stupid question, but why is having pictures of him online so bad?

He was given a new identity I believe.

He was given a new identity to stop vigilantes going after him, any hint to who or where he is now is banned.
Ahh that makes sense. Thanks.
So no one has the pictures now?
This sucks.
Sure, what he did was evil as all hell, but he hasn't reoffended, and he doesn't deserve to be hunted down because of something he probably regrets like nothing else.

Yes he has, he was caught downloading child porn a couple years ago.

Huh.
Well, serves me right for posting without paying attention to the facts.
The public should have a right to know where he is. Venables has forfeited his rights.

We want them to be terrified to go out, like they terrified poor Jamie, show the photo's!!
This is the society those young killers were brought up in.

10-year-old kid killing a 2-year-old.. and later admits to being a pedophile of sorts.
okay.. that's enough of life (and death) on Earth for me today.
If these get out on even a small scale he is a dead man walking
He takes away a child's life and get's a new one in return? Right ok.

The point being that he was 10 when he did it and it was a really fucked up murder so clearly he was pretty mentally disturbed. If he's gone through the system and received mental care and the state has deemed him a fit member of society why should he have to pay for something he did in the past as a result of being mentally broken?
For what he's done I don't give a damn

His rehabilitation was extremely poor due to atleast 1 prison officer working with him having sex with on atleast 1 situation

As said they where only children at the time of the offence, one would have hoped that their time inside would have set them on the right path. But in the case of Venables it looks to have sent him down the wrong one. Least we forget that nothing has been heard of Robert Thompson so for all we know could have a life and a family but will allways have to live with what he's done hanging over his head like the blade of damocles knowing that all it takes is a document to be leaked or an email missent and he'll lose it all and be a dead man walking.

christ, that probably explains his relapse into child porn I guess. It's very common for people that were abused as children to go on and become abusers in later life.
You know the system is fucked up when it makes you feel sorry for a child murderer

Later found out to be untrue after investigation apparently (or so wikipedia says)
All I've seen on facebook today is people sharing a picture that's supposed to be him. The comments are winding me up. "yeah lets torture him the same way he did thats totally fine and not a barbaric way of thinking and anyone who opposes our way of thinking even if you make valid points about proper conduct of justice you support child murders and deserve to be hanged as well"
Usually the fact they take so much care to protect people who have done horrific things pisses me off-
but he was 10 years old when this happened,
what he did was fucked up, but as a 10 year old i dont think it was an act of pure evil,
he clearly had some serious issues underlying it- issues he was too young to understand.
picture pls
You would kill a ten year old? holy shit what.
if he was trying to kill u?
No, still no, a ten year old is pretty easy to overpower without killing them, even if they had a knife or somthing you could easily disarm or out-run them. if you are seriously consider murdering a ten year old as a possible course of action under ANY circumstances please get help.

You clearly have little understanding of the basic principles of humane law.
if he was trying to kill u?
I'd probably be so concerned about the repercussions of being deemed a child killer by society that i'll likely end up trying to restrain him instead of resorting to something else (or die trying). I can't imagine the justice system being less forgiving if i was the one that ended up being alive instead of the kid.

According to his lawyer, Robert Thompson was the one who showed no regret and no emotion, Venables was the one who was constantly breaking down, saying he was sorry, and asking to apologise to the mother.
