Nikki Haley: ‘Women don’t care about contraception’

Republican South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley on Tuesday said that the Obama administration had made a mistake by mandating that health insurance cover birth control because “women don’t care about contraception.”
During an appearance on ABC’s The View, co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck asked Haley how conservatives could make the case that Republicans represent the interest of women.
“All of my policy is not based on a label,” Haley remarked. “It’s based on what I’ve lived and what I know: Women don’t care about contraception. They care about jobs and the economy and raising their families and all of those things.”
“We care about contraception too,” co-host Joy Behar interrupted.
“But that’s not the only thing they care about,” Haley replied, slightly revising her earlier assertion. “The media wants to talk about contraception. … While we care about contraception, let’s be clear. All we’re saying is we don’t want government to mandate when we have to have it and when we don’t. We want to be able to make that decision.”
Co-host Barbara Walters also wanted to know why Haley had not advocated taking down the Confederate flag that flies on South Carolina’s Statehouse grounds — which to many is a symbol of racism — since the governor had experienced discrimination based on her Indian heritage.
“You know, the flag went through a bitter compromise debate,” Haley explained. “They brought it off the top of the Statehouse. Now, it’s on the grounds along with an African-American monument as part of history. But I will tell you, I want South Carolina to be defined that they just elected a 38-year-old Indian-American governor. That is South Carolina.”
Haley in 2010 rejected calls from the NAACP to remove the flag.
“We don’t expect people from outside of the state to understand that dynamic, but revisiting that issue is not part of the governor’s agenda,” Haley spokesperson Rob Godfrey said.
There's also a video of her saying it in the source.

Welp, that turned around quickly.
How does the republican party find these morons?
"I want to give women the right to choose."
"but governor, your party is trying to ban contraception."
"THE DEMOCRATS ARE REMOVING YOUR RIGHT TO CHOOSE!"

Why not have all of them?
somebody should clue these people in on the fact that a lot of women take birth control pills to alleviate the symptoms of periods
More women should use the pill. Condom sex is so oldschool.

condom and pill is the safest

Or not having sex at all!
Granted, wee bit drastic but sure to work!

Not feeling it.
What an asshole
i don't understand why a woman would marginalize women.
eh lady, they make up 50% of the US population, i don't think you can really tell what they all care and don't care about.

I'd rather not get surgically involved though. Might sound sexist, but if there was a pill for men I'd use it in a heartbeat.
What a load of shit, I'm on the contraceptive pill, and many of my friends are too. If not they at least use a condom.. Apart from the exception of one couple I know, where the dude's managed to convince the girl that that if he pulls out before he cums then she won't get pregnant. Other than that, everyone I've discussed it with is always sensible and careful.

most women take the pill to regulate them, not to stop them. In packet there's 21 pills, after the 21st pill she waits 7 days, during which time she'll (usually) bleed. After that break the process repeats. Although it's common for the pill to alleviate such annoyances like cramps and PMS (where the hormones are all over the place and her emotions will be sensitive, mostly getting irrationally upset or irritated). In my personal experience it's the best form of contraception, I no longer get unbearable cramps and I don't feel like killing quite so many people.
If women didn't care, this debate would not exist.
And I damn well care. That is a ridiculous blanket statement to be expected from a women as well...
Ironically, President Obama has a high approval rating in South Carolina than she does.

Rubbers prevent STD transmission.
Little pills can't really help you in that department.

The pill is much better if you plan to sleep with one person regularly.

Except for the alleged one case that a lot of Republicans draw their inspiration from.

I don't sleep with random people at random parties so yeah...
I live in South Carolina at the opening of the 9-11 memorial here they introduced her as "her excellence"
unrelated but, that is usually how they introduce the pope or a bishop.
Nobody likes Nikki Haley. Seriously, I'd rather have the guy who used tax dollars to go sleep with his Argentinian mistress without telling anybody. Even he wasn't as stupid and useless as Nikki Haley.
What. I know a crapload of women who care, A LOT.
This says so much about her.

privileged woman. it's quite simple, really
Is there a way to sterilize males that is surgically reversible? I doubt I'd want to be sterile for life, I do want to have a family one day.

Funny thing - There's still an ancient clause in Canadian Civil Law that says that a marriage is not legally binding if it is done by coercion, under false pretenses, or if the male is impotent.
That said, the last bit isn't taken all that seriously anymore.
