• GPU Hot as fuck

So yeah, even after cleaning out the fans and stuff my GPU is nearly always at 80+ idle. Every time I play a game it lasts about 2 minutes before shutting down my PC, despite the quality settings. What should I do? Help please. :frown:
Did you try dusting out your case?
Did you try dusting out your case?
Yeah, I literally just finished doing that.
Well, is it a laptop?
Well, is it a laptop?
Nope, it's some Hp Slimline OEM. More exact: HP Pavilion Slimline s5202uk Desktop PC http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?cc=uk&lc=en&dlc=en&product=4032749 [editline]5th March 2011[/editline] It's at 102 now and I'm not even doing anything. Fan is at 100%...
Open the case up and see, if the fan is running? Just to be sure.. Or maybe you managed to get the fan off and now you need to replace the fan + thermal paste?
From what it looks like, that case is tiny Are you sure the graphics card has enough air space around it to allow proper circulation?
Yeah, it's a low prof motherboard, and the airspace is really low. There's not really much I can do about it either. [editline]5th March 2011[/editline] It's a huge clusterfuck basically, it never used to run this badly though.
It's kinda funny, but my 4850's lowest temperature is 86c, where the highest one is 106c. It's fine, no artifacts c:

Also a shitty picture from my shitty phone: That's quite literally the space between my GPU and my AC. [editline]5th March 2011[/editline] Here's a slightly clearer picture: dat jpeg artifact [editline]5th March 2011[/editline] Oh come on look at this bullshit. Would Downclocking help? [editline]5th March 2011[/editline] Help please, I'm seriously at the point of ripping out this card, taking a shit on it and using the Integrated ones instead. At least those don't fucking cook toast.
Take the card out and remove the heatsink and reapply thermal paste to it. The seal between the GPU and the heatsink was likely broken and the paste is all dried up and it is unable to make a proper seal at all.

Run to radioshack and buy some Arctic silver, then. [editline]5th March 2011[/editline] or whatever you britains have

I guess I'll have to hold off til tomorrow then. [editline]5th March 2011[/editline] Anyway I think cleaning the heatsink will do it alot of good, I was always wondering why it gradually lost performance, I thought it was just the GPU fan but I'm stupid enough to overlook the heatsink.

Don't clean the heatsink where it meets the GPU unless you have some thermal paste to replace it with.
100% fan speed all the time must get really fucking old. Leave the case open at all times?
Bump just to say that the Fan on the graphics card itself has packed in, the Catalyst panel said it was at 100% but the fan was not recieving any input. I'll have to buy a new card. thanks for the help.
You don't have to buy a new card if the fan is broken :byodood: Just replace it.
100% fan speed all the time must get really fucking old. When I put my 5770 into 100%, it sounds like it's trying to fucking take off and leave Earth.
My graphics card has two fans, and it's pointing to the bottom of my case. At 100%, it not only sounds like it's going to take off, I'm actually afraid I might create the worlds first hover-PC :v:
Ask it out. Slim line. Underclock.
Last time my GPU got really hot, it caught on fire. Needless to say, I got a different one.
You don't have to buy a new card if the fan is broken :byodood: Just replace it.
I don't think I'll bother, as I was thinking of upgrading to a more powerful card soon anyway.
