This is a controversial exploitation film by Tobe Hooper that claims is true, but is really based off of the gruesome necrophiliac Ed Gein, now deceased. It takes place in a rural Texas where a van filled with teenagers are going on a road trip. They then come across a hitchhiker who seems very strange, but they let it slide. Before they know it, he is digging a knife deep into his hand, setting a small fire and cutting a passenger. They let him out, but it's only the beginning for these unlucky teens. This moment is the moment that pulled me in, I was holding my pillow tightly against me the rest of the movie. A DEFINITE check out. 9.6/10 THE TIME TO VIEW THIS MOVIE FOR THE FIRST TIME Watch it on a summer night just as it's getting dark, alone.
Words cannot describe how much love I have for this movie.
Words cannot describe how much love I have for this movie.
My cousin (Former FP User: OzzyOsbourne)'s film teacher claims it's "the greatest movie of all time"
I just saw this for the first time recently. I wasn't expecting much, but it's definitely one of the greatest movies I've ever seen.
I just saw this for the first time recently. I wasn't expecting much, but it's definitely one of the greatest movies I've ever seen.
like I said, watch it alone just as the sun's coming down.
See more movies, people. It was pretty good for a horror movie but far from the greatest movie I've ever seen.
See more movies, people. It was pretty good for a horror movie but far from the greatest movie I've ever seen.
In ways it is the greatest movie ever made. It did the best it could for the money they had.
My reaction to the clip: :ohdear: I haven't seen this yet. I'll do so soon, but probably with one of my roommates. I'm a total wuss. :v:
I own an anniversary edition tin-cased DVD of this movie, love it.
My reaction to the clip: :ohdear: I haven't seen this yet. The guy in that clip is a moron. Not knocking the movie itself, since I enjoyed it: but who the fuck just goes into someone's house like that? Especially considering all the mounted animal heads on the wall and the fact you're in the middle of nowhere.
I own an anniversary edition tin-cased DVD of this movie, love it. In comparison to more modern horror movies, you're pretty much safe. It's gruesome, but not that scary.
I think it's scary, but not gruesome. I mean, it's not VIOLENT, but it's scary as hell.
I love this movie so much. It's brilliance in filmmaking, really. One of my favorite horror movies, if not my favorite. I hate to quote him, but I believe it was Eli Roth that once said the truth about the movie (ANd I'm paraphrasing). Something to the effect that it's "Remembered as the goriest movie of all time, when really there's barely a drop of blood." It's all psychological, that's what I love about it.
It's a pretty good movie.
Such a great movie. The opening scene alone sets the tone for the movie so well while being completely sickening
Ever since I saw some fucked up videos online, I can't watch gory movies anymore. I will never see this movie now.
I guess that's the brilliance of the film; barely any blood, yet it's still remembered as one of the most gory films of all time.

I like how in that scene they kept the music out completely until leather face slams the door shut. They knew people would be shocked anyways so a scare chord was unnecessary. With loud music as leather face comes in, the scene would be only half as effective
Ever since I saw some fucked up videos online, I can't watch gory movies anymore. I will never see this movie now.
that's a retarded excuse, I've seen BME Pain Olympics and I love this movie. See it like a man!
Oh god I agree. I didn't watch the video before. That's one of my favorite scenes, it just... happens. It's surreal. I love when the door closes, it's just like HOLY FUCK. Especially the first time you watch it, especially if you have the volume up more. I remember a much louder, reverberating clang to it. Brilliant scene.
that's a retarded excuse, I've seen BME Pain Olympics and I love this movie. See it like a man!
Nah, it was seriously fucked up.
Nah, it was seriously fucked up.
it couldn't be THAT bad. tell me what it was and I'll say whether it's a good reason or not.
I saw this for a film class and it was surprisingly good.
it couldn't be THAT bad. tell me what it was and I'll say whether it's a good reason or not.
Real beheadings and some real executions done with a handgun to the back of the head (that was just a gif I stumbled onto on some chan site, which I rarely fucking go to and that made me remember why). It just really disturbed me.

It makes you feel uncomfortable and does so with little to absolutely no gore and keeps it going for the running time with a budget of 80,000 dollars. That my friend, is an achievement.
This film is fucking terrifying, masterpiece it most definitely is. Whats the noise thats repeated throughout the film?, like a flash bulb whine or something.
I fucking love this film.
This is a film that proves that simple ideas are always the best. Wasn't it all created just by seeing a chainsaw and thinking 'That could be scary'?
I remember my mom telling me she got sick at the theatre watching this, and other stories of kids pissing themselves and people walking out. GO GET GRANDPA!
