On 6 May, she posted the photo to Facebook with her description of the encounter with the "creep", saying that he'd been reported to management and police and that he'd be charged if he turned out to be a registered sex offender. After hundreds of shares, the news of his public shaming finally reached the so-called "creep", who turns out to have been publicly maligned over innocent behavior. By the time the post was shared 20,000 times, he had received death threats and was considering his legal options, he told Daily Mail Australia under condition of anonymity.
http://mashable.com/2015/05/11/darth-vader-selfie/
A dad has been incorrectly accused of being a pedophile on Facebook by a woman he doesn't know. The woman is now mortified and begging for forgiveness. Both say they are "devastated" by the events surrounding the misunderstanding. The moral of the story: Don't post stupid things on social media. The whole debacle began innocently enough with a dad taking a "daggy" selfie of himself with a Darth Vader cut-out on Wednesday at a Melbourne shopping centre. It was his first selfie and he planned to send it to his children who are Star Wars fans. There happened to be some children nearby, who he spoke to — simply saying he wouldn't be a moment if they also wanted to take a photo.
If there were only one time raids were allowed without needing to seek approval...
I like that people are really hard pressed against pedo's but the "culture" of death threats and doxing someone on the basis that they have been accused, not convicted of, the act, is just as sick. It ruins their life and screws EVERYTHING UP. At LEAST hold it off until he's 100% confirmed 100% a pedophile with 100% absolute certainty. even then, let the court handle it. This man could end up proven innocent and fall into debt trying to just fix his reputation.
Either way, this seems like a textbook defamation/libel case in the making. That bitch will hopefully be just as fucked as the people witch hunting the guy.
paulahelmmurray · 6 hours ago She needs to be doxxed too. Let the whole world know her address and etc. so she can share what she caused. Otherwise, he needs to sue her ass off. I know in the UK they take libel/slander very seriously, not sure about Aus.
doxxing has practically become a (germ)culture of stupidity of its own "Don't like someone slightly? DOXX THEM!!!" But all in all this women pretty much did the same thing. How does this solve anything? That's the entire cause of this... She slandered his name and it caught a lot of peoples ears.
Sue that woman. Sue the fuck out of her. You can't just go around calling someone a pedophile without some sort of ramification.
Dumb fucking bitch. Hears 2 words and immediately assumes the worst and presumes guilty until proven otherwise. I hope he sues the FUCK out of her. He's been dealt MASSIVE reputation damage because of her retarded actions.
Sue that woman. Sue the fuck out of her. It's gotten so bad in recent years that people are starting to use their kids as a shield.

Hidden cameras in hats, cloths, bikes, cars that have dashcams, security cameras. You pretty much are being constantly monitored the moment you walk into a mall/grocery store.
god i hate people like that

You're filming me and everyone else in and around the store, I should be able to return the favor.

The whole situation is bad and the death threats are absolutely disgusting. But i'm glad it backfired on her.
The only punishment for a crime ought to be what's served in court. Not the first time this happens, won't be the last, quite unfortunate that so many people don't wait for any kind of proof.
Most of the time when I think I should take a selfie I regret it immediately and delete it. This man's reputation may have been further tarnished if he didn't have the evidence to prove his innocence. People are wayy too fucking quick to hop on the train to crucify suspected paedophiles. I completely understand how emotional people get when they believe children may be in danger but it's such a dangerous word to use so liberally without evidence. It can destroy people's lives with ease like no other word can. In a way it's like McCarthyism, accusing people of being communists without proof. Just as dangerous.
I'm confused. Is that selfie the picture? Or is there a selfie picture with random kids in the background somewhere?
A few years back, my dad was in the UK once for work stuff, and sitting on a bus, took a phone photo of some random kids walking outside on the street with schoolbags in uniforms. As our summer break is longer he wanted to send it to us so he could be like "See this, you suckers? You are slacking while these kids have to go to school!" The kids reported him and he got questioned by the police the next day.
I'm confused. Is that selfie the picture? Or is there a selfie picture with random kids in the background somewhere?
I'm assuming they thought he was taking a photo with the rear camera, which was probably pointed somewhere near them.

I hate how if an adult male is seen within 20 feet of a child people assume they are a pedophile, even a dad holding his kids hand.
I'm confused. Is that selfie the picture? Or is there a selfie picture with random kids in the background somewhere?
Phones have cameras in the front now so he could have been mistaken for aiming it towards the kids
I feel for this guy. I popped outside my office here to take photos at the beach one time last year (we rebranded our business and wanted some photos for the website). I was walking along taking some snaps of the beach, it was great with all the people on it... before long some police officers stopped me and demanded to see what I was taking photos of. Turns out some woman waaaay down on the beach thought I was some pedo creep taking photos of her precious children, and called the police on me. Never mind the 6,000 other WOMEN taking photos - I was the unlucky guy she targeted. Showed them every photo I took, they were cool about it - pretty much like "We get this bullshit all the time, but we have to do our job, you know" and it was all good. This wasn't even a thing when I was younger... what the fuck is wrong with society now. Swear to god people are getting so pissy and weak minded, ready to snap at the most insignificant of things. Heaven forbid if you're a man in this world now too, because you're apparently the root of all evil. Christ, I grew up babysitting kids for years and years of my life, but do you think I could ever even LOOK at a child again? Nope, because that would make me a child molester apparently. Lel, so very lel.
There is a serious problem these days, and it's the immediate assumption of guilt after accusation. I was reading that story about the woman at college who was carrying around her mattress after she went to her university about a guy that allegedly raped her, and was surprised when they didn't do anything. She never went to the police. She never went to a hospital. All she tried to do was go to her admin as try to get him expelled without any kind of proof behind her word whatsoever, assuming that her allegations were enough to get him expelled. Then she started the mattress publicity stunt when that obviously didn't work. If she had just gone to the police and filled out all the proper rape kit stuff, the issue would have been brought to court and he could have not only been expelled, but thrown in jail too. I believe that she was raped, personally, but she did the exact wrong thing. She assumed that because she said someone did something, that meant that to everyone else he MUST have been guilty. It's indicative of a societal belief that innocence until proven guilty is DEAD. With the ability to take to social media and convince your friends that a crime was committed, who will convince their friends, so on until thousands of people are enraged that someone who may or may not have ACTUALLY committed a crime, was never arrested or charged(despite the fact that the OPs of the allegations almost never go to the police), and then come the death threats and doxxing. We're back to fucking witch hunts from the public. People like anonymous think they're all a bunch of Punishers when in reality they're just a bunch of knobs who circumvent the law despite any real evidence to back up any kind of charges in the first place. If you think someone committed a crime, don't fucking post about it on the internet, ESPECIALLY SINCE YOU DIDNT ACTUALLY FUCKING KNOW IF HE WAS ACTUALLY A SEX OFFENDER OR NOT! You ASSUMED, based on your extremely limited second-hand information, that this mystery individual MUST have been guilty! And he wasn't! It is not your job to dispense vigilante justice.
You know when people getting this out of whack, becoming a basement dweller who only plays wow is lookin better ever day.
Current society is full of shit, especially the "full time mommies" that will unleash the power of internet onto you by sharing their full of shit stories. Some guy will be walking by bin near playground and throw bottle into bin, miss and it will shatter. They will go and write these paragraphs of facebook posts like: Beware, This [photo] guy tried hurting our children today, he threw glass bottle at children, lucky nobody was hurt, watch! watch! watch! watch! watch! watch! share! share! share! share! share! share! share!. It seems modern society works around provocations and who can catch out who on some small thing, then blow it out of proportion with help of media. Also I hate feminism, this bullshit has caused as others said: guilty until proven innocent if woman says something against guy, because apparently if we don't listen to women - we are sexists. All these fake accusations should have severe consequences, which perhaps would make the dumb bitches think in future twice before opening their mouth and shouting random ideas.
What a useless cuntbag.
Wow hope she gets sued good. These people are scum. Stirring shit up because their lives are too boring.
Also I hate feminism, this bullshit has caused as others said: guilty until proven innocent if woman says something against guy, because apparently if we don't listen to women - we are sexists.
Actually it turns out it wasn't feminism that caused this, it was the ignorance of an individual.
Not sure of the sources I've found (mostly DailyMail and Yahoo!), but allegedly she's been likewise harassed on the internet and has apologized. http://www.opposingviews.com/i/society/melbourne-mother-who-shamed-man-selfie-tearfully-apologizes-photos
