No joke, old people are fucking shifty. i worked at Woolworths, some 70 yo woman shop lifted a fuck load of stuff.
lol my brother has this problem working at a crappy retailer
Anything to get the dust flowing.
this is like a joke straight from a hidden camera TV show.
One day when I am a bored great-grandmother I will probably do the same thing
I'm Asset Protection at a local Best Buy.
We had an old bitch like that, infact she still comes in. She kept trying to steal laptops from us. She'd come in, like 80 years old, bent over, with a cane and pink suit with a broken laptop in a freezer bag and push her cart over to Geek Squad. She'd say "I can't get internet" and when they asked what her provider was she said she didn't have one, and than got mad and pretended to storm away. Than she'd put laptops into her freezer bags (which supposedly keep the EAS from going off) and leave in a brown old caddie with the the license plates "RIPELVIS" and than would hit every Best Buy in the general area.
She got caught once by the police and they took her license away.
Kinda reminds me of my grandmother in a way. She used to always steal little shit from places that she could get away with, like a fuck ton of sugar or ketchup packets, for example. Then one day we were in Olive Garden and she takes the bread and puts it in her fucking purse. I really wish I was joking when I said that.
Stealing Olive Garden bread isn't normal?

It's not even stealing, you fucking paid for it. Right?
Unless she grabbed it from the table next to her lol

Perhaps I should go more into detail. Basically what she ended up doing was trying to stuff as many possible pieces as she could in there and acting like she was going to get a damn death sentence if they found out. Was embarrassing as shit walking out with her while she had a fuck ton of bread in her purse.

They actually check your receipts? Half the time they aren't even there and the other half they just sit there and look pretty saying nothing more than "hello".
Sounds like a great sequel to Bad Grandpa.
I used to work retail, the old people were just as bad as the young when it came to shoplifting, if not worse.
She's 76, let her have her fun. As long as she isn't stealing expensive things and it's just petty things like a pack of hobnobs I see no problem here.
That is until she gets so bored she becomes a drug lord.

Don't give her ideas now...

There are two kinds IMO, the kind at target who are basically rent-a-cops who chat with their fellow rent-a-cops all day in uniform, and the other kind at Costco who look at your receipt and the stuff in your cart and draw a happy face on your receipt if it's okay
lol no one looks at the receipts at my local best buy
They're only going to check your receipt if it's a high cost item, like a TV or computer or if they have been having really high shrink issues. Employees are typically only instructed to stop a shoplifter if it's a high cost item, and if the person gets violent in the absolute slightest way, they're told to back off and just let them leave and get AP ASAP.

Target TPSs (the ones you are referring to) do shifts at the front entrance to visually deterr theft. But they hardly just chat all day. Even a low volume Target gets hit daily with theft. If it's a large enough target to have multiple TPSs then they probably get hit for 1000s all the time.

And you didn't do a thing about it? Not that I would have..
Old people tend to think that since they're old, they can get away with a lot of things younger people would get into deep shit for.
Then again, it's hard to deal with someone who's like 76 when they break the law. What are you really suppose to do.
This reminds me of a story my friend told me, he worked as security for a mall and there was an old lady who stole a pack of salmons and he checked her ID and assumed it was fake because of the number on her year before he realized it was real.
She was born 1897 or something like that (this was some years back mind you) and both the store and he were very confused about what to do.
I mean, they're not going to press charges against someone who might be dead next week and she probably didn't even know what she was doing anyway, so they just let her go with a warning.

Did we learn nothing from Breaking Bad?
Fuckin' old people, man. I'm telling you.
My grandma moved in some months back and all of my shit's been missing since.

I wouldn't say there are just two kinds. It depends on the corporation and what the rules are they set for their AP/LP or Guards.
At Target they have a really good AP program, they'll cuff people and bring them into the AP office, take their picture, prosecute them and everything. They have uniformed, undercover and very good camera coverage. And we've had Macy's AP guys come into our Best Buy following someone that stole from them with handcuffs trying to apprehend them before.
Best Buy is very protective of their associates. They prefer deterrence so we have a ton of rules regarding what we can and can't do. No handcuffs, no touching, no blocking their exits. It's almost entirely about presence and scaring the thieves into giving up or dropping the product and apprehensions are kinda rare, basically anything to keep their associates from being hurt and protect them from legal retaliation. Best Buy also makes ALOT of money daily so if someone steals from us it's not really a big hit to our business. Infact, during the Holidays we had $10,000 worth of tablets stolen in a week and our GM was like "Nah, it's okay we made more than enough to cover it" and it was true, it didn't even register as a loss on our weekly report.
We do check receipts but it's not to stop shop lifters. We do it to make sure they're giving customers the right TV's in the warehouse so no one walks away with one that was $300 more than what they paid or was $300 less than what they paid for. Sometimes the receipt checks allow us to enhance our apprehensions and discourage people from literally picking up 30inch tv's and walking out (which has been attempted before) but not every receipt needs to be checked. Just high value items, things not in bags from inside the store where we didn't see the transaction take place. And just standing at the doorway and saying hello is a theft deterrence by it's self as well.
I plan to make an Ask Me Anything one day. I have some really funny and crazy ass stories to tell.
someone go chase after her and break her arms & legs, she just forfeited all rights
