A Miami lawyer was arrested last week after he attempted to bring a gun into Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. Making matters worse was that he tried to joke about it when questioned by police.

Outside the front entrance of each park at Walt Disney World, there are bag check areas where Disney security looks through each bag. One of the security guards searching through bags noticed a bulge in the pants of a man trying to walk through. When the situation came about last Friday, Gerson was questioned about the bulge in his pants and joked with the security guard that it was part of his anatomy. Deputies later found out that the “bulge” was a snub-nosed revolver with five hollow-point bullets in it. Disney has responded to this by installing metal detectors at all their US parks, removing all toy guns from park store shelves, and banning guest costumes for those over 14.
What a fucking moron. Atleast nobody got harmed.
This is kinda sensationalist. It's legal to carry in FL, much like any state, with a CCW permit.
Oh shit, I'm down here right now and I didn't hear about this... Guess it's good they caught it, and with as high-profile a park as Disney is, metal detectors are probably a good idea. Kennedy had them when we went on Tuesday, it's always been kind of odd Disney didn't.
This is kinda sensationalist. It's legal to carry in FL, much like any state, with a CCW permit.
He didn't have a permit and he was acting pretty dodgy. Not really sensationalist, it's not like they claimed he was a terrorist or that he was trying to kill someone, just that a guy behaving erratically tried to sneak a gun into the park.
This is kinda sensationalist. It's legal to carry in FL, much like any state, with a CCW permit.
Guns have always been banned on Disney property and tbh bringing a gun to 'The Happiest Place on EARTH' seems really stupid.
He didn't have a permit and he was acting pretty dodgy.
Ahh, well then. Glad he got arrested for illegally carrying.
This is kinda sensationalist. It's legal to carry in FL, much like any state, with a CCW permit.
His gun permit expired 10 years ago.
This is kinda sensationalist. It's legal to carry in FL, much like any state, with a CCW permit.
But not in the parks. There are signs posted pretty much every five feet. You would notice that, rent yourself a locker near the ticket desk, and stick your gun in there until you left the park. The fact that he tried to take it in is a sign of pure stupidity or malice.
Guns have always been banned on Disney property and tbh bringing a gun to 'The Happiest Place on EARTH' seems really stupid.
Seems to me that terrorism would target highly populated places like Disney and sports events and other things. Most people carrying legally aren't out to go on mass shooting rampages, but in fact prevent them.

CCW permit or not, carrying a gun in Disney World is one of the most fucked up ideas a person could come up with.
with only 5 bullets I doubt he was meant to do anyone harm. nevertheless it was stupid
Over 14's can't wear costumes anymore? Lame as fuck
Wow that's an intense reaction. Morals aside, that's just a shit ton of movement to roll-out so quickly.
Theres like, some stastic that so many people bring concealed weapons to disney and it slips by security. Im going assume thats about to change The thought of armed guards in magic kingdom seems a tad bit unsettling however
Dang, the costume thing is kind of a bummer. I know a lot of people who love to go to DW in costume, adults and kids. But eh, I guess it's understandable. And the metal detectors are a good idea. Kinda wondering why they hadn't done that before.

It's one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, which means foreign tourists might be put off by some dude carrying his gun around.
I believe as much as you have a federally guaranteed right to carry a firearm on public property, individual businesses have just as much of a right to tell you to leave it at home if you want to visit their property. That's what freedom means. You get to run your stuff the way you want to within the confines of morality. This guy is garbage for trying to sneak a gun in.
Theres like, some stastic that so many people bring concealed weapons to disney and it slips by security.
This is kinda sensationalist. It's legal to carry in FL, much like any state, with a CCW permit.
If you are on somebodies private property and they don't want you to it isn't. The right to own property and do what you like with it trumps the right of gun owners.
This is kinda sensationalist. It's legal to carry in FL, much like any state, with a CCW permit.
Businesses have the right to not allow guns on their property.
This is kinda sensationalist. It's legal to carry in FL, much like any state, with a CCW permit.
Not onto private property without their permission
Woah. Banksy was right.
And now you need to go through a security checkpoint to get into disney land. Sad times.
the attitude + hollow points lol
And now you need to go through a security checkpoint to get into disney land. Sad times.
Eh, they've always had bag checks, and pocket checks if you've got something bulky. They take the safety of their guests pretty seriously, so this isn't totally out of line. If you've ever seen security officers pop out from behind a building and go jogging off somewhere, that's them trying to prevent something or deal with something that's happened. Everything's networked, there are cameras everywhere, and their emergency response teams are top-notch.
Businesses have the right to not allow guns on their property.
Not entirely accurate. The entire point of a carrying concealed is that nobody knows you have it. By definition bans to this effect have no legal weight. They can ask you to leave for any reason, carrying among, them, but they have no legal means to enforce a ban outside of requesting that you leave. For them to ask you to leave because of carrying, you have to be detected, at which point it's typically no longer concealed carry anyways.

I've been going for the past six years, every year. They've had bag checks.
