It's for work (word processing, e-mail etc and maybe some photoshop). The price is negotiable, but it won't need to be be too much considering the intended use.
Just the box.
U.K (ebuyer.com)
I'm just wondering if it's worth it over, dare I say it, a Dell. My opinion at the moment is that it's always worth building it yourself over a prebuilt, but I'm open to suggestions.
I suggest a 4350 or 4550 if you're just doing that kind of stuff.
Well the GPU isn't really important, yeah. Integrated would be fine. The main question is which CPU and motherboard. The i3s have integrated video functionality, so I could get one of those and a P55 board I suppose, although that's probably overkill for the use.

I know nothing about Intel, Ferrus. :P
Yeah, I guess integrated would be fine then.
How much ram you need?
Atom would be pretty cheap, might be a little underkill for what you need though, I wouldn't want to run photoshop on my netbook.

Go to Lenovo's website and build yourself a Lenovo T400
I work at a highschool and was given the responsibility to chose and design the 2010 laptops for my towns public schools. Orderd about 1,000 T400 laptops. I also work for the tech department within the HS and so far there has been not a single complaint relating the laptops.
Good luck with your decision.
EDIT: More INFO
Installed on these laptops is:
MS Office Suite 2007
Adobe Suite CS3

You can drop it down to 2GBs if you want to save some money.
