Just one month after filming an "It Gets Better" video in support of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth, a California-based gay teen filmmaker has taken his own life. Nineteen-year-old Eric James Borges, who went by EricJames among friends, worked as an intern with The Trevor Project, and as a supplemental instructor at the College of the Sequoias, according to Queer Landia blogger Jim Reeves. "A brief introduction left me with the impression of a fine young man, and I regret that I did not get to know him better," Reeves writes of his experience with Borges. Borges spoke frankly of being tormented throughout his adolescence and young adulthood in his video. "I was physically, mentally, emotionally and verbally assaulted on a day-to-day basis for my perceived sexual orientation," he said. "My name was not Eric, but 'Faggot.'" He claims his mother performed an exorcism on him in an effort to cure her son of his homosexuality before eventually kicking him out of his home. View "Invisible Creatures," a short film Borges produced last fall, below:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/12/eric-james-borges-gay-teen-filmmaker-death_n_1203123.html
He shouldn't have handled that this way
Wow, you should be a psychologist
Wow, you should be a psychologist
Thank you but I am becoming a lemon.
Well there goes my good mood this morning, thanks, judas.
Well there goes my good mood this morning, thanks, judas.
You're welcome.
Man did I want to post something to troll here but I know I would have gotten banned.
Why would you post just to say you thought about posting something
Man did I want to post something to troll here but I know I would have gotten banned.
Good to know. You should post it anyways, maybe we'll kick you out.
poor soul, at least he'll have a bit of peace now.
He lived a hard life for being so young, poor guy. Sucks he chose to end it.
Poor soul :( I'm sickened that his Mum tried to exorcise him in particular. Rick Perry runs about and it's all fine and funny to think that Christian Fundamentalists like that exist, but in a personal case like this...It disgusts me. It saddens me.
Bigotry and indoctrination in to a hate institution made his mother drive him to suicide. How loving and accepting.
What a sad world we live in.
This is the saddest example of the saddest phenomenon in the modern world. The global epidemic of hatred and intolerance toward LBGT people crosses all religions and borders. We've over the last few years seen suicides, murders, and lynchings on nearly every continent related to this issue. If I'm not able to look on this as a thing of the past when I'm an old man I will die in a pit of sorrow.
It gets even more sad if you believe in christian God. He will be sent to hell for atleast two reasons: for being gay and for taking his own life.
So wait, did he just show us that it doesn't get better? Before rating dumb, please post why it is dumb unless dumb rating cause i am being insensitive.
This fucking sucks. I feel terrible for this guy. His past was so horrible. I hate homophobia.
This fucking sucks. I feel terrible for this guy. His past was so horrible. As bad as the rest of the world was treating him, I bet if only his mom was supportive(not necessarily appoving, just supportive) he wouldn't have killed himself.
As bad as the rest of the world was treating him, I bet if only his mom was supportive(not necessarily appoving, just supportive) he wouldn't have killed himself.
While I wouldn't really agree that whether or not his mother was supportive of him was the only factor involved, I do agree that if she was at least accepting of it, then it probably really would have made his life that much easier. You can have all the friends in the world be supportive and accepting of you, but when your own mother thinks you're an abomination, there really is no comparison to the emotional scarring that leaves. The bonds children have to their parents, especially their mothers, is one that I don't think can be rivaled. Even if the person tries to actively and consciously hate their mother, deep biological instinct still makes their opinions have a large impact on our psyche - especially their opinions of ourselves.
Why would you post just to say you thought about posting something
I was going to post a witty answer to this but it wasn't worth it so I gave up.
In a hundred years, when people look back, it will be with disgust and hatred towards how we handled sexuality. Only a few college professors will be the ones who say "but wait, they weren't ALL like that." But nobody will listen and we'll be "that fucking piece of shit generation." It sickens me.
poor soul, at least he'll have a bit of peace now.
not if there's an afterlife shit imagine all the religious people
