• Man loses license after driving motorized esky
WHAT probably started as a cool idea has landed a 22-year-old WA man on a bizarre drink-driving charge. Hillarys police spotted a man riding a motorised esky down the middle of West Coast Drive outside the Sorrento Surf Club, in Perth’s northern suburbs, about 8pm on Friday night. Police will allege the esky contained alcohol at the time and charged the rider with Driving Under the Influence (DUI). A 22-year-old Sorrento man will appear in court at a later date.
Story The story is pretty short so I pasted the whole thing.
Police will allege the esky contained alcohol at the time and charged the rider with Driving Under the Influence (DUI)
But was he actually drunk?
I rode one of these once, they accelerate incredibly fast (i crashed into a brick wall (i was indoors))
Drink driving laws are retarded here, you can lose your drivers license for riding a skateboard/pushbike drunk
Drink driving laws are retarded here, you can lose your drivers license for riding a skateboard/pushbike drunk
That's probably because those things are already dangerous enough when you're aware of your environment and in full control of what you're doing. I've already seen plenty idiots in traffic with their longboards trip and fall (one of them even when going through a red light). Any "vehicle" without proper breaks is unfit for traffic, really. On topic, did he get charged with a DUI because he was driving drunk; or because the esky contained alcohol? The latter would be ridiculous, it's not much different than driving in a car with a crate of beer in the trunk.
I can confirm that Hillarys is the best suburb of the northern suburbs
And that is grounds for public endangering but not grounds for loosing a driving license, as you do not get your driving license for driving a non motorised vehicle on roads. You get it for driving a motorised vehicle there.
Drink driving laws are retarded here, you can lose your drivers license for riding a skateboard/pushbike drunk
This makes no god damn sense
Drink driving laws are retarded here, you can lose your drivers license for riding a skateboard/pushbike drunk
Not really that retarded in my opinion. You can seriously hurt someone with a skateboard if you become overconfident, which you absolutely do when drunk.
Since he's sitting on the booze wouldn't that be driving over the influence instead?
Drink driving laws are retarded here, you can lose your drivers license for riding a skateboard/pushbike drunk
No you can't. What state do you think you can lose your licence for?
I really thought this was gonna be Colin Furze for some reason
Drink driving laws are retarded here, you can lose your drivers license for riding a skateboard/pushbike drunk
Speeding, not wearing a helmet, not indicating and riding on the path can also get points on your drivers licence riding a push bike. Yet if you don't have a licence you can't be done for it. I had a friend lose his car licence for speeding on a push bike. And no, we don't need to register push bike or get a licence to ride one. Also, this is just up the road from my house and I drive past it most days, damn I wish I could've seen it.
But was he actually drunk?
Maybe... just maybe, the news actually reported that someone is only being charged with something and isn't immediately guilty. Responsible journalism that respects innocent until proven guilty. Is that possible in this day and age?
Speeding, not wearing a helmet, not indicating and riding on the path can also get points on your drivers licence riding a push bike. Yet if you don't have a licence you can't be done for it.
Nope. See s104A of the Road Traffic Act (WA) http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/wa/consol_act/rta1974111/s104a.html
(2) An offence cannot be a demerit point offence in WA unless it involves the driving or use of a motor vehicle.
Definition of a motor vehicle: http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/wa/consol_act/rta1974111/s5.html
motor vehicle — (a) in relation to authorisation to drive, means a vehicle that is built to be propelled by a motor that forms part of the vehicle; (b) otherwise, means a self-propelled vehicle that is not operated on rails, and includes a trailer, semi-trailer or caravan while attached to the vehicle, but does not include a power assisted pedal cycle;

I had a friend lose his car licence for speeding on a push bike. And no, we don't need to register push bike or get a licence to ride one.
Your friend lied. Probably just covering for the fact that they lost their licence for some other motor vehicle related offence. You also cannot get done for drink driving on a push bike in WA - in this case, it was not a push bike but a motorised esky.
I know at least 4 people that have been done for riding a push bike and lost points for speeding and other offences purely on a push bike. That friend was an example as he completely lost his license on a push bike (on Red Ps on a long weekend). Considering he doesn't actually have a car I'm fairly sure he wasn't lying. [editline]9th June 2014[/editline] Probably a dickhead cop
They're either lying (or pushing the truth), or 4 of your friends have been hard done by considering the law doesn't allow a person to accrue demerit points for a demerit point offence if they occurred on a non-motorised vehicle (such as a pushbike).
Well going on how much us P platers seem to be hated (since it says it on the licence as well), I wouldn't be surprised.
Whenever I see a cyclist on the street I make it my god given duty to knock them off the road and coat my car red
Whenever I see a cyclist on the street I make it my god given duty to knock them off the road and coat my car red
Sometimes I think they want to voluntarily give my car a nice new red paintjob. So many times have I had to slam on the brakes for red light running cyclists But I think red would suit my car
Drink driving laws are retarded here, you can lose your drivers license for riding a skateboard/pushbike drunk
You can get a ticket for riding your bike drunk here. (technically you can get a ticket if you can't "operate" your bike)
Drink driving laws are retarded here, you can lose your drivers license for riding a skateboard/pushbike drunk
tbh, if you can ride a skateboard fine while drunk I'd be impressed.
tbh, if you can ride a skateboard fine while drunk I'd be impressed.
ya thats what i think whenever i see stories about motorcyclists driving drunk. you have to be crazy stupid to get on a motorcycle and do 70-80mph while drunk [editline]9th June 2014[/editline]
No you can't. What state do you think you can lose your licence for?
i got pulled over on a bike once because i wasn't aware i needed a tail light, cops are dicks to cyclists
Even suitcase scooter man is doing better.
Well going on how much us P platers seem to be hated (since it says it on the licence as well), I wouldn't be surprised.
Then your friends are stupid for not fighting the point demerit. Which they would have no problem of doing. Considering they must sign the paperwork where it actually lists for what the point demerit might be, including the vehicle they were driving. I'd say it's much more probable that they lost the points in completely different situations and are lying to try and cover it up.
You can get a ticket for riding your bike drunk here. (technically you can get a ticket if you can't "operate" your bike)
A ticket|fine is completely different to getting demerit points though. You can get ticketed or fined as a pedestrian as well. (jaywalking, endangering conduct, bunch of other stuff) but you can't loose your license.
