I'm sure many of you have encountered them in the past. I'm not sure where this is going. But basically, a forum, that has been created in webspace. I look at the posts. I read their datemarks. 2006. 2007. 2008. 2002. They are old. Ancient. A human being born on 2000 would be ten years old today. But posts on the internet are of a completley different timetable. There is often a single post. Or many posts. Each delineating the death of the forums. Posts that hail for advertisment. More members! Each word underlined with the early fiery spirit of life. "Okay, this place is like dead. Yeah, because there are like no members at all. I think someone or all of us need to advertise this place. I wish for some imput to what I have to say, because I would love to advertise this place. Just to tell people, look there is this site that doesn't have too many people on it and is looking for members...." Then they start a plea for existence. The said reinforcements did not come. The 'veterans', those that stayed with the very founding of the forums, slowly start to leave. R.I.P. the dead forums. you make me sad. Today I joined a dead forum. It's some roleplay shit on proboards.com. I will talk to myself in the dead webspace, knowing that my plea for an absent audience is finally there. I will post post post. 2010, 2010, 2010. And maybe someone will reply. The "<3" in the title is supposed to be a heartbreak one, but there was no suitable equivalent... Things to cry about. I still have his profile on my friend list. I occassionally glance at it as I scroll down my friend list, reading the words "Last Online: more than 1 year ago" knowing those words will never change ever again. It is kind of creepy, you know? Like a permanent mark of him, still sitting there uselessly in cyberspace.

http://sassyswg.proboards.com/index.cgi?
bawwwwwww.
It saddens me when I want to visit an old(and fairly unpopular forum) after not seeing it for a while, only to see it's been shut down.
I could some old Halo RPG website from ~2006, i used to make comics with their sprites. I found it a while ago. I tell you the coffin won't be opened again [editline]23rd September 2011[/editline] I was an annoying fuck
What was the name of the forum with the owner that removed access for everyone except hem/herself and started posting for years and talking to him/her-I mean itself?
This is an oddly disquieting thing to consider.

I still watch a forum that is mostly dead. There are about ~5 active members and one or two posts per week, and it keeps getting more infrequent. I still visit it every couple of months, to see 10 or so new messages.
Lets find some cool ghost forum and liven it up.
I wonder when fp will become abandoned... Probably when garry decides he doesn't want to run a forum anymore and perma's everyone.
I wonder when fp will become abandoned... Probably when garry decides he doesn't want to run a forum anymore and perma's everyone.
In 10 years I will come back to this forgotten site and start finishing arguments knowing no one will reply making me feel like I won them all.
I wonder when fp will become abandoned... And they read my post thinking I. No.
I wonder when Myspace will di..... Oh wait.

http://sassyswg.proboards.com/index.cgi?

Dang that's old.
Last Updated Topic: STAR WARS: THE OLD REPUBLIC by mikey (Oct 30, 2008, 8:26am)

0 Members, 10 Guests. Most users online was 16, Apr 30, 2006, 1:14pm
Four or five years ago, I used to frequent a clan site for the Mac demo of Halo: Combat Evolved. It had rankings and stats and people could form clans and recruit people in the forums and what not. I left some three years ago, but I recently whois'd it, and it's still registered to Burr, the admin who had owned it from the beginning. Now all that's left is this. In the source is this:
Although the roads we now travel spread far and wide, it is with great fondness that I remember when our paths once crossed on the dusty grounds of an inescapable cavern. I hope time treats you well, dear friends.
Made me sad. I had a lot of good times on that site when I was younger.
If you want to find old forums, Forumotion is a nice place to start, its a easy to-make-a-forum website which has alot of dead forums.
Dang that's old.
Update: 0 Members, 21 Guests. Most users online was 22, Today at 6:42pm Hmm I wonder why :v:
I miss the Reasonably Clever forums. They were still accessible because the guy just hid them instead of removing the whole board, but I don't think it's possible to sign on anymore.
Here's something that bothers me.. When these ghost-forums are still on the internet, does that mean someone is still paying for the servers and the content on them? Or are there cases where they're just forgotten? :S

I wish I had gotten into forums when I was younger.
I've never thought about how the everlasting things I've posted on different forums and whatnot will be there in 70 or so years. Just there, as accessible as today, but no reason for anyone to go look at posts. Unless someone does decide to? Like my children, or grandchildren, or possibly widowed wife? Who knows, it's almost like a small record of my life that anyone will be able to read as long as the internet exists. But I won't be alive to reply then. Thinking about the future makes me sad sometimes.

This is so stupid, why does it feel so unsettling to me? It's just like its an old forum, so what? Then I think about it more. And more. And I just feel strange knowing a piece will be there forever.
Then somebody 20 years in the future reads this post and gets the most eeriest feeling ever and when he reads this post it gets even more eerie.
It's like where giving messages to people in the future. Hey, you reading this. Yeah you. How's it going? How's the future? Have we found intelligent life elswhere in the universe? Have we cured cancer? Has half life 3 come out yet? I wish the people from the future could answer back.
Will our children thus inherit our usernames?
The thought of facebook profiles and users on forums left over from the deceased, a catalogue of their thoughts and dreams if exposed online, their interests, their dislikes, pictures and posts going from day to day left for those in the future to find... It brings me a strong sense of melancholy. Can't help but make you think if anyone will stumble across your profiles long after you're dead and learn a bit about you.
Will our children thus inherit our usernames?
I will make sure my family internet name is ruined forever then!
70
You're assuming the infrastructure will last that long. It likely won't. As new paradigms emerge, a vast majority on content produced will disappear, just as it always has. Whilst there will be examples, both obscure and famous, as things advance the need for keeping old standards will diminish, and so will the body of content produced under the old paradigm.
They won't get half of our jokes in the future because a shit load of the internet is composed of memes.
