First seen in the top 100 boys' names in the 1950s, Muhammad has taken the lead for the first time in the UK in 2014. A survey conducted by a parenting website has declared the name Muhammad to be the most popular name for baby boys in Britain, surpassing previous favourites, Oliver and Jack. The results have fuelled some controversy, because the survey includes various spellings of "Muhammad" in calculating its results. Muhammad, name of Islam’s most revered prophet, translates to "praiser of God" and "praised" from Arabic. First seen in the top 100 boys' names in the 1950s, Muhammad has taken the lead in 2014. The name can be spelled 10 different ways, so when they’re all added together, it jumps up to first place, according to BabyCentre website. Why are they counting multiple spellings of the same name as the same thing? Shit's retarded yo.

Parenting website lol.
If names Muhammed and Muhammad are among the top it's still equally concerning.
In what way is it concerning?
It's always been the most popular name in the entire world. This is just an attempt to cause a shitfest by having the name as one spelling.
Okay, who cares? Add up all traditionally British names on one side and all traditionally Arabic names on the other and the British names still come on top by a landslide margin. Who cares if Muhammed is a popular name amongst people of Arabic descent? It just means caucasians have more variety in how they like to name their kids.
If names Muhammed and Muhammad are among the top it's still equally concerning.
A guy at work said the same thing "they're out breeding us". Its bullshit. Muhammed and its various spellings are VERY popular amongst muslims whereas most non-muslims have a wider variety of names so of course muhammed will be very popular. Muslims account for just 4.4% of our population. The only concerning thing is the lack of variety and the possibility of yelling a name and having 3 or 4 people turn their head. I mean, I personally can't see any average Caucasian family having a child named Muhammed. Just me personally, culture to culture. Different cultures, different names.
I'd rather call my child Streetlamp rather than Muhammad. Not because of reddit, not because "fuck islam" but because its the most common and generic muslim name. Just think for a second, how many Muhammads have you heard of? I would want something more unique for my child, so that at least he would've stood out a bit. Calling you son Muhammad is plain boring and original Disclaimer: if you call your baby Streetlamp youre fucked up.

Seems like it's to early to yell allahu snackbar in London.
In what way is it concerning?
Because it's them dirty foreigners here to steal our jobs and benefits at the same time by giving kids Sharia names, and probably causing cancer, among other idiocies that the Daily Mail actually believes.
Isn't Muhammed a religious name? I mean, I personally can't see any average Caucasian family having a child named Muhammed. Just me personally, culture to culture.
In what way is it concerning?
The fact that there's more foreign children in England rather than English?
I think as a name it doesn't sound very good.
The fact that there's more foreign children in England rather than English?
In what world is 4.5% of the population a majority?
If names Muhammed and Muhammad are among the top it's still equally concerning.
Not really - one of the most popular surnames in the czech republic is Nguyen for. It's not that there;s a significant immigrant population, but because among the population that is there, almost everyone has the name. Same goes for mohammed, it is mindnubbingly popular as a second name among muslims to the point that almost all have it as a second name. So a lot of other names get pushed out by this singlehanded focus.

I don't have a problem with the people but with the economy's current climate we need a tight hold on immigration like Cameron promised, yet not delivered as shown in recent statistics.
In what world is 4.5% of the population a majority?
I doubt english parents would name their child Muhammad.
I'll get dumbed to eternity but I'm not overly comfortable with the majority religion within england, a Christian nation - being Muslim. How is this concerning? If 5million people name their kids everything under the sun, and one group name theirs all the same.. that's bound to skew the statistics heavily.

If that's the majority then England hasn't been a Christian nation for a long long time. But nope, it's over, the muslims INVADED England, time to accept Sharia guys
The fact that there's more foreign children in England rather than English?
A Muslim name does not necessarily mean they are foreign.
A Muslim name generally means they are of foreign parents. And to be fair, I don't really care for anybody but english people's opinions when it comes To this, they just throw statistics around. [editline]2nd December 2014[/editline] And if you can't tell - I'm on about foreigners in general in the UK, not just Muslims.
Naming your first born son Muhammad is a common practice among muslims, so ofc, the statistics of that particular name are going to go through the roof even if it originates from a minority.
And if you wish to throw statistics, go look at londons statistics for foreigners, the influx of foreigners over there is a good representative of what could happen nationwide.

If there are 10 Muhammeds, 9 Hans', 9 Peters, 9 Aarons, 9 Toms, 9 Jacks and 9 Kevins, Muhammed is still the most popular name, but it doesn't mean that the majority isn't English.
And if you wish to throw statistics, go look at londons statistics for foreigners, the influx of foreigners over there is a good representative of what could happen nationwide.
London is an important international city, which also happens to be your capital city, of course a lot of foreigners are going to live in it. Ones from all over the world. Do you think it's any different in any other rich Western capital / economical important city? Paris, Frankfurt, New York, Sydney, etc etc
I'll get dumbed to eternity but I'm not overly comfortable with the majority religion within england, a Christian nation - being Muslim. The fact of the matter is, things function.. no how uncomfortable you are, largely because of foreigners.
I'm pretty sure I stated I wasn't more concerned about Muslims more immigrants in general, and you're relatively clueless yourself as you've probably no experience being in a major city and having 3/5 people not speak English.
