• GTA Online includes in-game currency microtransactions
A Reddit user found and analysed an XML file from Rockstar’s website, which seems to show virtual items available for purchase in Grand Theft Auto 5′s online component. These items seem to include “cash packs” in denominations of $100,000, $200,000, $500,000 and $1.25 million.
http://www.vg247.com/2013/09/23/gta-online-includes-in-game-currency-microtransactions-rumour/ I made a big fuss on here about not getting GTA V due to the absence of flying cars, however that seems petty in comparison to this. I was still planning on getting GTA V anyway at some point as the online sounded cool but this shit put me right off. Hopefully there's a huge outcry over this and that Rockstar won't implement it/remove it from multiplayer. What's likely to happen is that GTA Online will be called things like "genius", "masterpiece", "mind blowing", etc as 99% of the gaming community kisses Rockstars ass. Another point I'd like to make, well more of a question. Since Rockstar seems to be going down this mini DLC route, won't they make their PC port mod unfriendly as people could just recreate the content?
as I said before and I'll say it again, they are most likely not going to do it
Ooh, Rockstar are evil? Let's just wait until we know more. I'm not going to take shit from some random redditor crawling through XML files, I've heard enough stuff like it that turned out to be bullshit.
as I said before and I'll say it again, they are most likely not going to do it
Yeah you're right. My gut feeling is that they won't do it. I've got a sixth sense for this. They just won't do it. I'll say it again. They just won't do it, I know it, I can feel it.
as I said before and I'll say it again, they are most likely not going to do it
Well im hoping they changed their minds when GTA V made over 1 billion in like the first week of its release.
Isn't the ingame cash easy to get after a while
Who cares. It's not like it forces you to. And I think this is kind of clever, since rich people in real life might use it to influence the stock market or something.
I'll reserve judgment until GTAO is actually released or Rockstar themselves confirm this.
I hope this does not happen rockstar already earned their money back, milking further is just being greedy imo. And the game isn't even that good.
Not a problem if you ask me, honestly. It's optional, it's not going to bother me, I'll just simply, you know, not buy that shit. It's when you're forced to do micro-transactions to enjoy the game that it becomes a problem.
isn't it peer to peer? so wouldn't it be relatively easy to just cheat money in? I'm not bothered by purchasing money but I'm pretty sure there will be ways to just cheat for it.

Okay? As far as I know it isn't going to make you a God compared to everyone else. At most you can buy more stuff for your safehouse and buy better guns. But it's free mode or whatever, and guns are fucking everywhere. If it gives you better guns in PvP modes like Cops 'n Crooks, yeah, that sucks, but I don't really see a problem here, unless I'm missing something in which case I'd appreciate some enlightenment
As I said in the other thread, no one knows if they intend to sell these. They just appear to be things that can be purchased / redeemed. People should not take things from random XML files as granted. There is literally no context to this at all.
You haven't played a game with microtransactions, clearly. Not counting TF2, they are all designed so that you want to use the store. Avoiding the store usually results in horribly long grinds for items/unlocks. Certain games will actually withhold even more features from you unless you dish out cash. They are designed so you get as basic and bare-bones of an experience as possible to entice you to spend money (otherwise nobody would).
Woah when did you play GTA Online?
Well there is a section on the xbox version of the game which says "XBOX STORE", clicking on it says there's nothing there yet so I imagine it'll be optional DLC and shit

Its not really any different to how in Forza you can buy in game cars with real money if you don't want to earn the money in game.
I have very little experience with Rockstar in general so I'm going to treat this like I would any reasonably well-respected and trustworthy company when they're pulling this shit. It's still bullshit and opens a window into more bullshit if we aren't lucky or they aren't very careful.

Microtransactions on a non-F2P game are the bane of video game existence but now that it's Rockstar it's fine right?
Yeah you're right. My gut feeling is that they won't do it. I've got a sixth sense for this. They just won't do it. I'll say it again. They just won't do it, I know it, I can feel it.
A message comes up in the online beta saying that you can buy some GTA Money with real money. Whether that makes it in release I dunno
Who the hell cares? The only thing this would do is the people who would buy these would ruin the game for themselves, it wouldn't have any effect on anyone else.
Not counting TF2,
No, I think TF2 counts to. It's just that instead of this
Avoiding the store usually results in horribly long grinds for items/unlocks.
You get a horribly long wait, for a period of time somewhere between one and a half months and infinity.
It does seem strange that they make money more realistic in terms of how you can accumulate it, then throw this in. But, having said that, is this really too big a price considering how big online will be, and the direction Rockstar want to take it with regards to expansion? It could also cost a lot. £2000 for £250,000 in game? Maybe that's a bit too optimistic.

Rockstar is one of the few gaming companies I still trust not to fuck me over. I'm hoping this is going to remain true.
Who the hell cares? The only thing this would do is the people who would buy these would ruin the game for themselves, it wouldn't have any effect on anyone else.
Now correct me if I'm wrong but it makes a difference to everyone. If a majority of crews are funded by transactions such as this, they get the upper hand, controlling the majority of the stock market, get a massive Advantage from release. There would be two entirely different class of crews. Those funded by transactions and those ran legit. The power gap would be MASSIVE. Wouldn't it essentially make the entire premise of what GTA Online is built around somewhat redundant?
im fine with it as long as it's only buying virtual money, not like, buying a real money only upgrade or something. because, what they are trying to do, making more cities and landscapes, how could they do it for free? they need a steady income to make sure they can actually do it later on in GTA Online. I'd rather that instead of paid expansion packs for extra cities or missions or whatever. rather have stupid people pay for me than pay for myself, lol *IF the whole reason they are doing it is soley so they can continue to keep their service free to the general gamer if they include extra paid cities TOO i'd be pretty disappointed.
Who cares. It's not like it forces you to.
