Story 1 (superhero/action): A man struggling with bills and debt finds he has the power to control gravity, he goes out and tries to "fight baddies" but gets shot and gets rushed to hospital and he is charged with hospital and medical fees as he hasn't got insurance, he decides (as this power got him into trouble it will get him out) after much deliberation to rob a bank, he succeeds but the security footage of his power goes viral and is all over the media. he is then hunted down by FBI agents, military, scientist and the other "heroes" who lay low and don't use their powers. (I don't know where I am going to go with this one, he could become a fugitive, a hitman, an experiment, a criminal etc). (the comedy would be the realism of being a superhero, such as fashioning a skin tight suit with no sewing experience so he ends up wearing a hooded jumper and mask or walking round looking for "baddies") (music that describes the feel of story 2) Story 2 (sci-fi/thriller/mystery): In the year 2014 am astronaut is sent out to the space shuttle orbiting earth to replace the old crew with 3 other crew members and himself. On their second week in orbit they lose contact with earth completely, after 2 more weeks they go down to earth as it is dangerous not to have contact, they crash land on earth, our main character wakes up from the crash to see that crew members did not survive, he gets out of the ship and walks around, everyone is gone, everything is still there except humans, like everybody just got up and walked away. after exploring for a few hours he returns to the ship in a state of panic and confusion to see that the corpse of his crew are gone. he is alone, or is he? Which one would you prefer to watch? If there is any suggestion to change to make it more realistic or original please go ahead as I don't know much about space travel. If there is anything you think I should add or change please tell me, I need feedback. Thank you.
i like story 2, sort of survival thing. could be like man vs wild or he colony sumthing like that. sounds like "the road" which was quite a good movie/idea for a film. the first one cant really go anywhere apart from generic superhero movies where the only entertainment is in special effects, and as this isnt going to be on a billion dollar budget and on more of a youtube level (i would suspect) EDIT : after just watching that other video you put on youtube maybe you could pull this superhero one off.
I suppose I would prefer the first one. Is this part of a school project or something? What kind of budget/resources do you have available for this movie?
Second one sounds like it has more potential to be honest. And probably easier to create if you're on a tight budget.
The first reminded me of Kick-Ass, Jumper, and Spider-Man.
sci-fi!
I think the second one has potential, although I don't think the music would do the atmosphere justice.
I think the second one is good. Honestly, if i was in that situation i would be scared shitless.
Sure, the second one is awesome. But if done correctly, the first one would be amazing.
Second is good. Perhaps think of a better reason as to why he came down to earth, "dangerous not to have contact" just sort of bugs me. Might just be me though.
the first one cant really go anywhere apart from generic superhero movies where the only entertainment is in special effects.
This is the challenge, to be different. Hollywood doesn't like to stray away from the "Superhero Movie Format" because they know it sells but since I'm on an independent budget I have all the time in the world to avoid cliches and other things like that.
Is this part of a school project or something?
No its a hobby of mine I would love to make into a career.
What kind of budget/resources do you have available for this movie?
That would depend on if I could get a sponsor and/or I win the film contest I'm entering in right now but if I made it right now I would probably have a starting budget of $200 but end up spending around $1000 all up.
The first reminded me of Kick-Ass, Jumper, and Spider-Man.
Yes, I would have to change quite a few things to make it fresh and interesting. [editline]06:11PM[/editline] and thanks for the feedback so far guys.
Could you possibly explain "done correctly"?
If you had convincing special effects there and there, it would be a fantastic film. The difference between both of them is that the first one won't require you to make movie sets (I'm guessing it's set in an urban scenario), and most props and sets are already available since you're dealing with everyday situations. For the second one, you'd require sets for the space station and such, and to make it convincing, you'd either have to buy a bunch of scrap material and make one yourself, or buy a replica (which IS available for film-producers, they're just expensive). I don't know how you'd go around to making an intact abandoned city, but there are plenty of abandoned small towns for you to use, just make sure they're not a lair of crackheads. Of course the second idea is a lot easier for you to make, and a lot more original (the first one reminded me of Jumper as soon as I read it). You also wouldn't require a huge crew nor so many special effects (apart from the first scenes in space). But still making the sets or getting to buy one would be a pain in the ass. Have you done something similar, like a short, or even a full movie, that we could relate to?
i really like both of them, the first one seems like it would be a better version of Hancock. The music for the second one makes me feel kind of hopeful that the main character will survive and or fix the situation he's in... and i know my description of what I'm trying to say isn't that good haha.
Have you done something similar, like a short, or even a full movie, that we could relate to?
Thank you for the feedback! here is my first short film, im really not to happy at all it but the story line specifically, I also had to work with another directer so It was very stressful. http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=971065 I'm actually writing my own film this time, i'm going on to a short for a film festival.

But you pointed that out so since you're aware of it, it's alright :P Well, if you're going for a short I say go for the second one. The first one would have a really long storyline and chain of events, and wouldn't be nice to watch on a short, but instead, a full movie. Why don't you take the second one for your festival, and when you feel like it, do the first one as a full movie?
