Harold Guretzky, of Oceanside, had the Cessna transported from Republic Airport about a month ago, after he lost his student-pilot license for health reasons and no longer wanted to shell out $150 a month in storage fees there. “I didn’t want to keep paying if I couldn’t fly, so I moved it to my driveway,” he said. But the move is going to end up costing him a lot more than that. Guretzky, 69, who owns an aircraft-radio company in Queens, has already been hit with a summons from the Town of Hempstead Buildings Department that could run as high at $2,500. The only way keeping a plane at home would be legal would be if he got a variance from the local zoning board. “He doesn’t have a permit to do it,” said Rita Fisher, the Buildings Department’s deputy commissioner. Guretzky was ticketed on July 22 — and Fisher said he could be hit with a summons each week the Cessna stays in his driveway. Neighbors said he can’t get rid of it soon enough. “It’s distracting and it’s an eyesore,’’ complained Deonna Ryder. “That can’t stay there forever. It needs to be in a place where planes are kept.” Other residents on Yale Street got so fed up with the plane that they called police — but Guretzky claims officers said that what he is doing is perfectly legal.
His neighbors are a bunch of fucking whiners.
Have to agree I immediately wondered what the difference between that and someone keeping their boat in their driveway is. Why do his neighbours even give a shit?
Its his driveway and his plane, whats the big ass deal? If he gets fined he should park a giant hot pink trailer there being as much of an "eyesore" as it legally can.

Christ, people bitch about everything that has nothing to do with them.
Are you kidding? That's fucking dope. Don't these snobbish HOA pricks want their neighborhood to look wealthy? What better way to do that than having private aircraft parked in driveways? Seriously, I don't understand the mindset of some people. That's a beautiful classic aircraft, it's not like it's some health hazard.
Fuck right off, one of my gramas neighbors built a cesna in his garage, that was fucking amazing and nobody complained, though they didn't have a home owners association so nobody really could stop him anyways
in short, neighbors should mind their own business and fuck off
My neighbour once complained that our dogs were too noisy. This same neighbour had 6 kids, a bright pink roof, two cars on the footpath, $10 garden shop statues littered across the front yard, a scrap shop in the back, and constantly blasted bass-enhanced vaporwave.
Dear neighbors, get a fucking life you sad bunch of twats.
I once had these neighbors that moved in across the street, and within a week they had dropped a note on our door explaining that the amount of chimneys on our roof (6, 4 were non functional due to heating units being removed), was unsightly. They claimed that they wanted us to remove them or they would call the city and have them fine us. My dad burned the note in the fireplace and told us not to ever talk to them. in short, neighbors should mind their own business and fuck off
One of my friends had neighbors like that who would not stop harassing him over the smallest shit, and when he was put in a wheelchair it got worse. One time (and this is what started basically a fucking war) they called the cops on him because his handicap-accessible van had been backed into while he was sleeping and the bumper was laying there in the driveway. Apparently according to somebody else, the guy went over with a ruler and measured how far it was "on the sidewalk" and phoned it in but I didn't see it myself. Cops did absolutely nothing about it, they showed up when I was taking pictures for the insurance company and the busybody asshole husband marched over to make sure we were arrested. They were really pissed off about it and kept calling the cops for every little thing and yeah... my friend's other friends escalated things I guess. So sometimes the cops would show up at this wheelchair-bound guy's house and would ask shit like, "sir do you know anything about a fire extinguisher being... activated... and thrown through your neighbor's window?" in a completely monotone voice. They still live there, and like four years later (my friend had moved away years prior, couldn't afford to keep the house) I was visiting somebody else and I noticed that the guy was scrubbing off what looked to be high-velocity dog shit shit and eggs encrusted on the siding. I burst out laughing because apparently he managed to piss off somebody else which was not surprising at all. Of course I immediately noticed that his car was ever-so-slightly parked too far back and was over the sidewalk so I anonymously reported him for that. Fuck that guy.
What the hell? The plane isn't in any obnoxious colour or size or anything. It certainly beats when people around here buy so many huge trucks/SUVs that literally don't fit in their driveways, and end up covering up the sidewalk requiring you to walk around.
i really don't get what the fuck it is about suburban neighborhoods, stories like this always happen. why the fuck does it apply to them what he puts on his own property??? i really do not get the mindset at all like what the fuck is it to you? why does the world have to cater to you because what you're looking at is something you deem "an eyesore"? then close your fucking eyes bitch
I was about to suggest to take wings off the plane, but
After a warning from the local Buildings Department, he thought reconstructing the plane would solve the issue.
What, why did they complain about plane with no wings attached. There's absolutely nothing about plane without wings which wouldn't allow it being stored anywhere. A plane without wings is not different from boat out of water, just an item you can store anywhere where there's space.
you don't want a cool-ass fuckin plane on your driveway? fine. but that's his driveway, not theirs. none of their business, if they care, THEY move away
His property, his decision. They could cry as much as they want to, doesn't make it less of his right to have the plane there.
Wow, what a pathetic bunch of people. I've had neighbors test their rusty three-storey yacht's loudass engine at midnight and not a single person complained about it.
Its his driveway and his plane, whats the big ass deal? How is that an eyesore? It looks great.

When it's blatently obvious that the neighbor is doing better than you are, your mindset is to complain about it, no matter what it is.
I'd get the permit and leave it there until history ends. Fuck whiny neighbors.. [editline]12th August 2015[/editline]
His property, his decision. People don't care about brown grass but oh boy that cool looking airplane in the driveway is AN ISSUE. :glare:
I was going to suggest that it might have been a really old, worn down plane with paint peeling and such. I could see that but no, this looks like a beautiful plane.
Holy fuck I saw this thing last weekend! There was a pool party across the street haha really cool plane. He keeps it in immaculate condition too
The only way keeping a plane at home would be legal would be if he got a variance from the local zoning board. “He doesn’t have a permit to do it,” said Rita Fisher, the Buildings Department’s deputy commissioner.
This is six kinds of stupid. Ridiculous. If he owns that airplane and his home he has every right to park his airplane on his own fucking driveway.
Fucking NIMBYs are such inconsiderate assholes
When you have no life, this is how you have fun. Pricks.
Dude should just call it art and try and work the freedom of expression angle or something. It honestly looks pretty bitchin sitting in his driveway.
"It's distracting and it's an eyesore."
Talk about North American middle-class white person problems.
"Other residents on Yale Street got so fed up with the plane that they called police"
WHY?
"It doesn’t look good," he said.
Good lord.
I'm really glad stuff like that isn't such a huge thing in Norway. We got two planes out in the open on two different properties, and one indoors, we've never had any complaints even though one of them is half dismantled for parts.
Makes me happy to live in the state park system where my only neighbors are squirrels and deer.
