Turkey criticizes German 'populism' after Merkel shift on EU membership
ANKARA (Reuters) - A spokesman for Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan accused German politicians on Monday of indulging in populism after Chancellor Angela Merkel said she would seek an end to Ankara’s European Union membership talks.
Merkel, seeking a fourth term in office in Germany’s Sept. 24 election, said in a debate on Sunday it was clear that Turkey should not join the European Union, and that she would talk to other EU leaders about ending its stalled accession process.
“It is not a coincidence that our president Erdogan was the main topic of the debate,” Erdogan’s spokesman Ibrahim Kalin tweeted, criticizing what he described as mainstream German politicians’ “indulgence in populism”.

“Germany and Europe’s attacks on Turkey/Erdogan, by ignoring essential and urgent problems, are reflections of the narrowing of their horizons,” he said.
“We hope that the problematic atmosphere that made Turkish-German relations the victim of this narrow political horizon will end”.
So refusing a nation that has become the antithesis of your union is "populism"? I think they need to acquire a dictionary.
Did Turkey seriously think that they would be allowed into the EU after all the shit they've been pulling? Is Erdogan retarded or just pretending?

I think he's almost as retarded as Trump is, albeit with actual capabilities for a leader.

Get rid of the mustachioed infant ruling your country at present and you'd be quite a ways in.

It's like trump saying he's going to build a wall and make Mexico pay for it. It ain't happening but his supporters lap it up.

Gee, maybe the Turkish government should have afforded the Germans some bloody respect and not try to meddle in their upcoming election in the first place. Then none of this would have happened.
Turkey is a lovely place with rich culture and history, but god fucking damn is their current government just horseshit.
It's pretty much an occupational requirement for authoritarian leaders to be professional victims, lashing out at the meaniepants media/Germany/NATO/West/anyone/anything

The election meddling isn't even the worst part. They've resorted to somewhat blatantly politically motivated arrests of (also) German citizens now.

they're mud flinging, they don't care that what they say doesn't make any sense, europeans aren't the target audience.
