Always had a real soft spot for Gears. I loved 1 and 2's campaigns.

Meh, original is better.
It's a shame you can't show the feeling of hopelessness the original Gears had, especially after 3 ended [sp]with science magic turning all the locust and lambent into dust.[/sp]

That what i missed the most in the end, Gears 1 had this terrifying atmosphere that you were pretty fucking hopeless and also for the fact that survivors hated you as well (because the Government basically killed billions of its own people for the sake of "perhaps" rooting out the locust which failed).
Gears 2 and 3 were becoming more and more "Fuck ye we can take them ALL at the same time"

Also the fucking soundtrack..

Don' get me wrong though, Gears 2 and 3 were still fantastic.
Yeah, I enjoyed 2 for what it was, but I hated the way they shunned 1's theme and atmosphere.
I love Gears, but to be perfectly honest this song invokes the same reaction from me that Sound of Silence does.

Well i find it a shame that i can't somewhat take these songs serious anymore. I used to find both of them really beautiful and meaningful but i have seen these songs so much in parody videos that that changed for me..

Agreed. I remember in the Watchmen movie during [sp]the Comedian's funeral[/sp] my stepdad was going on about how moving Sound of Silence was during this scene while me and my stepbrother desperately tried to hold in laughter.
They really fucked up the atmosphere with this remake. They changed too much of the original and now it doesn't have the same impact as the first.
I hate when companies feel the need to make big changes to cutscenes in hd remakes. mgs 1 Twin Snakes suffers from this as well. Just remake the damn textures and models and be done with it.
I thought they had remade the Mad World trailer. Not bad, I'm liking what I see.

Gears trailers pretty much set the standard for musical trailers that every other game to this day tries to copy.

I dunno. 2 had some crazy shit, like the chainsaw-wielding locust leader that cut fucking mobile siege tanks in half, and yet [sp]a Carmine got essentially digested to death, an early-game buddy suicided and Dom's wife had to be euthanized[/sp] even as the Gears upped the ante. On one hand they could fight back viciously and defeat said leader, but on the other hand humanity was essentially down to its last city and the world was on the verge of royally getting fucked. It was both bleak and simultaneously batshit with gigantic worms eating parts of the city and the [sp]human-locust hybrids[/sp] that basically went completely unexplained for that part of the game.
Unfortunately I never played 3 to really learn just how weird it probably got.
I loved all the Gears games. I hold them in a special place for me because of all the memories my friends and I had with them. I agree about the tone of the game being changed from the first game to the others but from i heard, the Gears 4 will return to that dark, hopeless, scary feel. I bought an Xbone today, mainly for Gears but for other games as well.
No competitive multiplayer 3rd person shooter is more fun than Gears.
Gears actually had it all that i wanted in a last gen game..
- Good splitscreen multiplayer or co op.
- Able to play online in splitscreen like in Halo
- Splitscreen mode that can be played offline against bots (Horde mode, EXTREMELY fun to play with friends)
- Good single player (had its downs and ups, the comical combination of Baird and Cole was the biggest drive for me to play through it)
- Satisfying multiplayer.
Yep, secretly Gears was my favorite game of the 360/PS3 era of games.

And 4 player coop in Gears 3. That was the best.

My TV is too small for that but if it was larger i would definitely do that.
One time we all brought our 360's and had a little LAN, a combination of multiplayer and Horde kept us going from 7 PM to 5 AM.
Gears 3 would have been a let down for me if not for how fucking great the Horde mode was. Spent waaaay to much time in that.
gears of war is shit

[sp]The human-locust hybrids (sires) were explained in the books. They're not actually human-locust hybrids, they were the first locusts. Locusts didn't exist until people started suffering from Rust Lung. From there experiments started being made on them and eventually the Locust were created because of it. Technically the Sires were the first infected Lambent and the first Locust.[/sp]

Oh okay. I thought it was pretty good, but apparently I don't.

well, that completely turns everything I knew on its head

Also
[sp]Imulsion wasn't a pseudo fossil fuel; it was a parasitic organism (that just happened to be highly combustible) and the lambent were just infected locusts and, eventually, humans.[/sp]
Really disappointed it wasn't done in the original style

[sp]They explained that in Gears 3 as if it wasn't obvious[/sp]
If you are ever bored, the lore of Gears of War is pretty interesting to read.
Few of my favorites

Best memories I had from gears was trash talking ghetto people, and yelling TWO PIECE NO BISCUIT whenever doing the melee shotgun combo.
I miss my xbox so much.
