The Web company on Tuesday debuted the first in a series of new logos it plans to unveil in the next couple of weeks. The change was inspired by "a renewed sense of purpose and progress at Yahoo" since Marissa Mayer took over as chief executive officer a year ago, Kathy Savitt, Yahoo's chief marketing officer, wrote Tuesday evening in a Tumblr blog post. "The new logo will be a modern redesign that's more reflective of our reimagined design and new experiences," Savitt wrote, explaining that a new variation of the logo will be presented each day during the next 30 days. "It's our way of having some fun while honoring the legacy of our present logo." The campaign will culminate with the unveiling of a new official logo on September 5, Savitt wrote. While the new logo is intended to reflect a new corporate personality, the company isn't exactly abandoning the visual and auditory cues it has spent the past 18 years building as part of its brand. "We also want to preserve the character that is unique to Yahoo! -- fun, vibrant, and welcoming -- so we'll be keeping the color purple, our iconic exclamation point and of course the famous yodel," she wrote. "After all, some things never go out of style."
http://news.cnet.com/8301-1023_3-57597326-93/yahoo-to-give-its-corporate-logo-a-month-long-makeover/
All those look awful
Does anybody use Yahoo! for anything but mail these days? I remember back when it used to be a competitor with Google but I don't think anybody's touched its search engine in years

It's slowly dying out over there too, but the site shares the more classical layout in Japan:
how is yahoo still relevant
They bought tumblr and pissed off a lot of people, that's the only notable thing they've done lately
The one pictured in the OP looks nice
Are they seriously trying to build hype for a fucking logo? :suicide:
Does anybody use Yahoo! for anything but mail these days? Why are all these companies focusing on making horrible new logos? They all look so bland and lifeless.
Japan. So looks like they're trying to gather some users back..
To make half of the ad it looks like they just went into Photoshop and literally just scrolled through the font list while recording it. And then they turned it purple.
I'd say Yahoo! Answers is still more relevant than its other functions (like the search engine). So, it's not completely obsolete.
I'm just pissed that they own flickr, because of this i have to log in to my yahoo account i created solely for that purpose, and the password is ridiculous because of the requirements.
google is no worse when they tried forcing some people into using gmail for youtube
yeah that was ass too and the google+ shit, don't even get me started still using separate accounts, never touched g+ since it opened
google is no worse when they tried forcing some people into using gmail for youtube
just wish they pissed off with those stupid "Do you want to use your REAL NAME as your YouTube account", no this account isn't for personal videos fuck off please
A new logo isn't what Yahoo need. What Yahoo need is actual relevance and services that stand out from competitors.
how is yahoo still relevant
Yes because Marissa Mayer is a hottie
Does anybody use Yahoo! for anything but mail these days? I remember back when it used to be a competitor with Google but I don't think anybody's touched its search engine in years
The reason people use yahoo emails is that because they're quick to set up. They're pretty good to spam websites with.
just wish they pissed off with those stupid "Do you want to use your REAL NAME as your YouTube account", no this account isn't for personal videos fuck off please
I somehow fucked up and am now stuck with my real name. Also I have a gmail mail account and it's annoying how it automaticly logs in with it on youtube as well.
All those look awful
You look awful.
how is yahoo still relevant
They weren't, that's why the new CEO replaced literally everyone, shut down most of the old services, acquired new ones, and scooped up a bunch of people from google and amazon
I kinda wish Yahoo would go away or get bought by Google.
Yahoo are only relevant in a limited number of countries and will only be for a short amount of time. While what fishyfish said is true, Yahoo usage has dropped something like 10% since 2005 and google has went up twice that, or possibly an even larger loss than that. Google at the same time has been taking over video related content in Japan with YT, slowly jabbing at NND which may decline quickly. Although, NND has seperate uses for livestreaming and NSFW content.
im sorry that not all logos are shitty ugly bubbley messes now
It's just majorly uncreative. It's like the new Windows logo, where you make the most generic thing possible. It doesn't have to look tacky, but at least make it stand out somewhat.
Yahoo's logo is terrible and a relic from the 90's. The very least they could do is even out the text. It's such a pain to look at. The font needs some work, too - nobody uses serif fonts in logos anymore, and it makes it look super dated. I don't get why people hate on minimalistic design so much. It's a great trend that makes companies put more effort into branding, instead of opening Word and throwing clipart and shitty fonts around.

The YQL platform is really nice. I hope they can fight their way back with more useful tools and such.
how is yahoo still relevant
they aren't and their new ceo is trying to fix that
The reason people use yahoo emails is that because they're quick to set up. They're pretty good to spam websites with.
all the cool kids have their own mailinator aliases to use for junk accounts
