They have done it again :\
They can't keep getting away with this.
They'd better not pull this shit with the PC version as well.
I'm literally done with gaming
bye
god damn it fromsoft
you had one job
I don't get the joke.

Ooh Nightmare Creatures, I had almost forgotten about that game. I remember it having some pretty nice fluid combat for the time, on top of being pants-shittingly terrifying.
I didn't want to actually look at the video at first because I want to avoid spoilers, so I thought all the comments were serious and I got really disappointed.
Super relieved now though!
I don't know guys, it kinda just seems like a new lighting system, the differences are minimal at best.
It makes me wonder even though the video is a fake why developers downgrade and blatantly lie anyway.

I mean, I get the joke, but what's the other game that they're showing? Or is that irrelevant?

what do you mean "other game"? they're both obviously bloodborne
Damn, they really had to gimp the graphics to get it to run at 30 fps

It's an old PS1 game called Nightmare Creatures. The joke is playing off how Dark Souls 2 had a graphical downgrade from the build used at E3, only taken to a humorous extreme.
Consoles holding back gaming for another ten years. Great.
the power... of the PS4...
Funny that my very first impressions of Bloodborne were "Reimagined Nightmare Creatures". Not that it's a bad thing, that game was awesome back in the day.
The first one still has one of the best constructed soundtracks of the survival horror genre too. Greatly elevated from the background drivel and orchestral stings of today.
I believe the proper term for these is "Bullshots" (Bullshit+Screenshot). In any case it's stupid and developers need to cut that shit out. Have some pride in your work, geeze.

Downgrading is often a result of not knowing the target hardware, which usually means they either just use a proof-of-concept style render that's all Pre-re-CG or polish a very tiny area to a shine for the gameplay trailer and when they add in everything else realize they can't attain that fidelity across the game and sacrifices must be made.
Developers need to fight for the right to speak freely or begin speaking more earnestly on development issues as they come up. However I would caution to also understand that things change and sometimes developers can't realize what exactly went wrong until well after the project is completed. Always except even slight variations on release and that most of what you see is target footage prior to release and not necessarily representative of the final product. You should always wait until the final/review build of the game starts popping up on sites before purchasing as well if you are nervous or concerned about potential issues regarding a visual downgrade or other technical issues.
Keep in mind a lot of time certain areas in games can easily pull off visual effects that pre-release footage shows
The problem is, as a game gets near the end of development other areas in the game that match that level of effects/fidelity level might not run nearly as good, or might have a lot of bugs/gameplay issues on those effects, or whatever. Plus, preview areas are often rebalanced/arranged as the game becomes more complete. Instead of having it so these preview areas look noticeably better than everywhere else it is often better to keep the entire game looking consistent and running consistent too. Otherwise you get it so certain areas look worse compared to others (sloppy), or certain areas run at a much worse frame rate or play worse than others due to lighting.
It is often cheaper, simpler and more "elegant" to not worry too much about getting it so the entire game looks as good as a target render/preview build, than it is to spend potentially months just getting it so the other areas of the game can play and look good on an older benchmark.
The shitty default font really sold it for me. I can't count how many times I've seen that used unironically.

oh shit, i thought this was a joke video as well.
this is really, really bad
like, thought for a second that the downgraded game was a level of dark souls 1 and the april 2013 was from dark souls 2 with like a revisited level (i didnt play dark souls 1 or 2)

No, that one is real, unfortunately.

Wow. I mean, just, wow... I've never been much of a Souls fan like most of my friends, but one thing I've heard about Dark Souls 2 is how bad the graphics were in comparison to the Alpha/Beta.
At first I thought they were bluffing, like "Pfft, that's silly. How bad could it be?" Then I come across this video, and my jaw crashes through the floor. Especially at 0:20, 2:00 and 2:52. Pitiful.
Probably couldn't get it stable enough on the consoles.

True, of course 360 and PS3 aren't really powerful enough to handle such graphics, that's understandable. But they couldn't at least somewhat get these graphics on the PC version somehow? Hell, even if you couldn't get these graphics at all, why would you market it like this?
Maybe it's something I'm not seeing here, but it confuses me that companies do this in the first place. I know it's to generate hype and sales, but all that's going to do in the end is garner disappointment from fans and critics alike once they see the final product. I know these companies would have already gained their profit from sales by this point, but what happens the next time they make a game? Fans are going to be distrustful of the companies for their treatment of their previous product, forcing the companies to work even harder to gain the trust of the fans who were disappointed with the previous product back.
Again, I might not be getting the big picture. If there's something I'm missing here I'd be more than glad to have been shown where I'm wrong in this. Even I don't think I'm all that right on this, which is why I need clarification.
Hey - bit off topic here, but does anyone have any clue what song is used in this video? I seriously want this song.

It's familiar... I swear I've heard it before, but I've got no idea where.
Hype: Gone.
