Looks like Steve Jobs isn't the only thing confusing twitterland: NBC News' official Twitter account has been compromised, broadcasting an entirely false report of a terrorist attack at Ground Zero. The Anonymous-symapthetic group "Script Kiddies" (sweet name!) take credit.
Ryan Osborn, NBC's Director of Social Media, says "The @NBCNews account has been hacked. Working on it. Please don't retweet any misinformation." So yeah, don't. Nothing happened. If you see a friend spread this lie, do us all a favor and correct them.
Update: The Script Kiddies Twitter account (@s_kiddies) has already been suspended. That was quick! Someone at Twitter got some pissed off phone calls.
Update 2: The NBC News Twitter account is currently suspended—presumably while they get their shit in order.

I got fooled.
I doubt twitter got hacked, so unless he posted his info on the web, even then it wouldn't be "hacked", he did it himself.

He?
Oh fuck there goes my twitter account. God damn it.
Ok, so what was sent out?
I want proof.

Wow, that isn't even convincing, what do they mean "suspected" hijacking?
What's the chance of a plane crashing on accident into the exact same place a plane crashed into almost exactly a decade earlier right after a warning by the government about a possible terrorist attack happening?

Well it looks like they didn't walk away from the whole LulzSec affair a few months ago any the wiser.
Someone, let me know when the first arrest is made.
So they committed real terrorism with reports of fake terrorism? That's new.

because hacking a Twitter account is highly illegal and the FBI are going to have their best men on the case and SWAT teams with a shoot-to-kill order

FBI?
Shit dude, they've got the god damned CIA on it!

Technically, they can't legally say it was a hijacking (if this were real, that is) until they have certified confirmation.
It's why in police shows and such, they refer to the criminals as "suspects" even when it's painfully obvious they did it. They're not anything more than "suspect" until there's evidence showing that he/she is the real thing.
The nerve of these hackers. A day of tragedy should not be made fun of.

I understand what you're saying, I really do.
You can tell the hacker didn't think that through or he/she wouldn't have said that Ground Zero had been "attacked" if it was only "suspected."
