So I've started to have some sound/fps stuttering issues with TF2 lately after I re-installed Windows, worked just fine prior to that. Sometimes at seemingly random times, the game freezes up for a few seconds and the sound starts looping. Bit of a bad explanation, but this video shows what it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QjaLWyote4 Monitored temperatures/CPU usage as well, nothing odd on temperatures but the CPU usage drops from 14% used to 0-2% used during those stutters. Tried enabling/disabling VSync, fiddling with multicore rendering as well as just general video settings, deleting the "team fortress 2" folder under C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\----\ yet nothing has worked so far... Computer itself is a laptop, Acer 7750G to be specific. Graphics drivers are up to date, FPS is around the 60 range and never really falls down from that until it stutters. Specs: GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6850M CPU: i5-2410M 2.30GHz RAM: 8 GB Does anyone know what it could be?
My games do this too, occasionally. I'm on a homebuilt desktop and not a laptop. Check your power settings and make sure your computer isn't throttling itself to save battery (You can modify every setting individually but it's easier to just change it to 'performance') Also, check your temperatures with HWMonitor I would expect your temperatures to be between 60-75C under load, or even higher for the GPU (80-90C)
Temperatures were actually reversed, GPU was around 60-65 average, CPU was around 70-80. As for the power settings, I had already checked those at an earlier date, those seemed to be fine. Though on a different note, apparently a defrag fixed the stuttering, or it's just not showing anymore, even though during the re-install I had formated the drive, what's up with that?
Formatting the drive doesn't defrag it as far as I know, unless it's a full format (which would take ages)
I had a problem similar to this at one time, I had found a hotfix for it on AMD's website. See if there is a fix for it on their website.
Well nevermind about that defrag fixing it, just tried TF2 again and I had those stutters again. Can't seem to be able to find that hotfix on the site as well... EDIT: Decided to monitor the hard drive a bit, only found out this much. The blue spikes occur when it stutters. [T]http://filesmelt.com/dl/disk_monitor.png[/T]
Bump, still haven't found a solution for it. Thought it could've been steam cloud giving me old config files and thus messing it up that way, followed a tutorial to completely disable that + wipe old configs. Also used sourcetools to completely reset all the settings after that, if anything it only reduced the amount of stutters, but it still happens.
