My mom's job requires a external hard drive and I was wondering if you guys could find me one around 70 bucks with auto backup software. Also as high a capacity as you can find.
Thanks
P.S. I live in the US.
I use a 500 gb Verbatim that comes with Bounceback Express. havent used the backup software with it but i guess its good

That looks nice but I haven't heard a lot about verbatim. I will consider it though.
mine is nice. it has a stand, fan, only problem is the cords seem short and when transferring data it makes a crackling noise. idk what that is but it might just be my old model. its reaaaaally old and boxxy
but it gets the job done.
USB or eSATA? Will it be running for extended periods of time? What capacity do you need?
These questions, and more, to be answered on the next instalment of External Hard Drive

Usb and it won't run for long periods of time I think. Also as long as it is bigger than 250 gigs it is fine.

For information to OP.
I run a Fantom 1TB (model GD1000EU) Dual Interface (USB 2.0 and eSata), I got it about over a year back (130 USD which was a sale back then), basically on always (since I never turn off my desktop), temperates stays around 100F degrees, and hooked via eSata. I use it for storage of media mainly with some documents, have not had any trouble with the external drive yet. FYI though, in this model, they use a Western Digital Green Drive (WD10EAVS-00D7B1), in others newer models it might be a Hitachi, depends on model.

We use whatever is reliable and on hand, plus cheap.

Do those auto backup?
Do those auto backup?
Fantom did not come with software for backing up, so no.
Also what kind of backups are you doing? User Profiles? Whole System?

If there is a possible one to keep a back up of programs that would be awesome but I am pretty sure it doesn't exist so just selected files and such.

I think you could get Acronis (sometimes after rebates for 19.99 or Free) Home and Office to point to programs folders and back those up.
If you just need a USB external that won't run for any length of time, pretty much anything will do. Those Western Digital My Passports are great because they're Western Digital and Western Digital drives never fail ever ever never ever. But kidding aside, get a WD.
They come with backup software, but I'd recommend using something like SyncBack instead as it's much more powerful. (There's a free version available, does everything you'd need it to.)
