• Youtube shits up some more

I found this sort of funny because it just shows how bad youtube is getting over copyrights. So, over at another forum, we've got a guy there that makes Ross Kemp (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSiDvyBVohc&feature=fvst) impressions in a half life 2 mod, then gets them filmed and uploaded onto youtube. Though his impression is spot on, some of the stuff he says makes it quite obvious that it's not Ross Kemp (durh) So British Sky broadcasting, of all people came along and claimed rights to his videos, and got them all removed. Copyright trolling at it's prime example.
Your video, Ross Kemp In Resistance And Liberation , may include content that is owned or licensed by these content owners: * Content owner: British Sky Broadcasting, Ltd. Type: Audiovisual content
Stuff was good enough that either Sky Broadscasting or youtube saw it as a copyright infringement, despite the fact that none of their content is in it. Do they actually have any solid grounds to get it removed? Here's the now non-existent links: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id8En22uXik http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JW3t6uTZOLs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaTwL_APJ9g&feature=channel_page
With things like this, it's not youtube's fault. It's the people who claim the copyright. Not saying that youtube isn't shitting up though.
I'd switch to another video site but none really have the popularity that Youtube does.
This is why the world needs more heroes. People can easily be pushed around by big corporations, and the CEO's sleep without fear of guerilla armies rushing their facilities and taking them down. In other words, there's too many heartless corporations with star-scraping notions of copyright. Haven't they ever heard of parodies? There's nothing against parodying, is there?
Yeah i'd love a new site, but youtube is just faster and more popular than every other site

But youtube can't just let people claim videos...
Agreed. YT should actually be brave, and have the will to actually perform counter-attacks.
Resolve copyright, paste this; Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Fair use is a use permitted by copyright statute that might otherwise be infringing. Non-profit, educational or personal use tips the balance in favor of fair use. Get your video back.
Youtubes down the shitter, we need somethin else, fast.
I like how i had to watch a 15 second ad to watch the video
Youtubes down the shitter, we need somethin else, fast.
Or we could just spam the heartless corporations with the wonderful copyright disclaimer thing Zesty posted. Yeah, that'd give them something to cry themselves to sleep over.
As the author, i'd take that as a compliment, reupload and be all :smug: really.
This is what disputes are for.
Copyrights are bureaucratic bullshit anymore. Companies are trying keep some iron fist on their 'products', but they can't control its usage. Don't they see it's actually helping alot of things, anyhow? I watch Penn & Teller on Youtube, so what do I do? I go and start watching it on the tele- therefore generating more revenue from a few episodes being freely and easily available than I'm sure some company lost. Some companies are allowing their music and videos and shows online for free to view, and they're doing fine. The Universal music company thing has its own YouTube channel with music videos and such-doesn't seem to hurt them any. South Park provides episodes free online to view, yet their viewership on Comedy Central and the like is still just as high as ever. And as far as actually stealing content goes, oh bloody well. People pirate and put things on the web that they aren't supposed to-you can't stop it. But alot of it is justified. I'm not going to spend 20$ for as many songs when I can get them in slightly less quality for free, and I'm sure as hell not going to pay 35$ for a Red Dawn DVD when I can go and watch it free on Google. The whole thing goes for this guy, too. He does impressions-it isn't violating anything, and if anything it's helping Sky. Impressions and parodies, as far as I knew, were completely legal. And if someone saw these impressions and thought to go and watch the original, well, tah dah, this guy just made Sky some doe. And I just went off on some barely related tangent. Woops. Sorry, OP.
With things like this, it's not youtube's fault. It's the people who claim the copyright. Not saying that youtube isn't shitting up though.
Yes it is. Here's whats happening: Company: "Hey, all those misc unrelated clips are copyrighted to us!" Youtube: "Oh shit! We'll take those down immediately!" What should be happening: Company: "Hey, all those misc unrelated 30 second clips are copyrighted to us!" Youtube: "Proof of copyright please?" Company: (option a): "We don't have it, but it's ours I swear!" (option b): "Proof of copyright right here guys." Youtube: (if option a): "It stays until you can find proper proof of copyright." (if option b): "Sorry, but the Fair Usage Policy states that even if the clip is copyrighted, it is in good standing as long as it does not exceed 30 seconds and no profit is made from the clip."

You have to be really dumb to complain about any of this, it is in the terms of service. Don't like it? Stop complaining! Why did you accept it in the first place?
stop with these youtube threads we dont give a shit we all know whats going on
You have to be really dumb to complain about any of this, it is in the terms of service. Don't like it? Stop complaining! Why did you accept it in the first place?
Because users don't have much of any other choice-it's in every site's ToS and if a site openly allows it it gets sued off the face of the Earth or shut down by the feds.
Copyright wasn't even meant to be used like this. Copyright law absolutely NEEDS a revision to match pace with the digital era. Otherwise it is going to come off bad looking where you're taught to share your toys but can't because some exec says "WE AREN'T GETTING A PROFIT THEREFORE IT IS INFRINGEMENT"
You have to be really dumb to complain about any of this, it is in the terms of service. Don't like it? Stop complaining! Can't we start a Youtube boycott? I mean, we have thousands of members here. We are also a sister form of SA, plus a bunch of /b/ tards go here. If we all get together, we can put a pretty large dent in their usage.

I would move away from youtube in a second if somebody could make a decent alternative. Vimeo isn't bad, but it doesn't really have the social layout of youtube.

Less retards, but also less built in audience. An audience of retards is still an audience.
